LA has a bunch of lotto tickets, they could all turn out, or maybe they dont...
Sj is a dump truck, and saddled with some baaaaad contracts
Edmonton's 2 d prospects, 1 of them csnt play D
Even if the flames do move some pieces, they are gonna get stuff back, monahan and gaudreau have a ton of value
I'd also move gio to a contender, if hes willing

You're looking at Johnny only, who you aren't a fan of.
Let's just ignore the fact that the Flames have Johnny, Tkachuk, Monahan and Lindholm, and focus your hate on Johnny.
The biggest reason the Canucks are still playing and the Flames are not is Markstrom. He gives them a chance to win every night and that has allowed their confidence to build.
Again, can we please gear down on the over-the-top Flames bashing?

Well, yeah, but to be fair the Flames are built for depth - especially on the blue line - while the Canucks have a couple of high-skill forwards, one star defenseman, and a great goalie. Totally different teams.
Let's be honest, the reason the Canucks are still playing while the Flames are not is entirely the result of goaltending, as it often is in the playoffs. Without Markstrom they'd be long gone.

It is the point. He said the reason they're still in the playoffs is their top forwards are more valuable than Gaudreau. That simply isn't true.

Debrusk is absolutely right - that save by Markstrom last game turned the series around. At that point, STL was dominating. Since then, the Nucks have scored the last 7 goals.
Nothing builds a team's confidence like hot goaltending.

I simply picked out our best or 2nd best forward and asked a hypothetical question.
Why don’t you answer the question.
It’s not rocket science.
Everybody has their hope up that the Flames are going to get a high end player plus plus for Mono or Johnny.
Not going to happen.
Look forward to your response.

They absolutely can, partly because of how cheap those two players are... Vancouver just isn't a good match.
The question is more whether they want to do that. If they're blowing it up, they might not be looking for a good player. If you really wanted to, with all the expiring deals on this team, you could make a lot of hay by solving other teams' cap problems while accumulating picks and prospects. For example, if you wanted to trade with Vancouver, rather than giving them Gaudreau, you might be better off giving them nothing of value and taking back Loui Eriksson and something of value.

Meh. Before people start anointing the Canucks as the next best thing or actually praising Benning, let's remember that their cap situation is terrible, their goalie is UFA, and Benning gave term and money to Jay Beagle and Loui Eriksson and Tyler Myers.
Oh, and they lost the scout who was at least partially responsible for grabbing Petterson, Boeser, and Hughes.
They have some great pieces, but they still have issues that the cap might (probably) exacerbate) and Benning still makes terrible moves.

The Nucks have 4 top-end forwards: Pettersson, Boeser, Horvat and Miller
The Flames have 4 also: Gaudreau, Monahan, Lindholm and Tkachuk
Ignoring Flames' fans current bitterness, those two sets are pretty comparable overall

Lol, that was my original argument, where I asked about the Pacific team cores in 3 years.
Flames are awesome, is that better?

According to said scout he had no real say in the matter, so, yeah.

Prospects are prospects, let's see how it plays out. No need to exaggerate. And I never said they are awesome.
What ever happened to reasonable discussion? Why is everyone so black and white about everything? And if people don't agree, retort with sarcasm

Their lead amateur scout had no say in grabbing these guys? I find that hard to believe. Then what leverage was he using to try and get more autonomy with the Canucks?
It's been widely reported by several credible sources that Brackett had a lot of say in those picks.

Toffoli is not on the level of those guys. Backlund is a better player, IMO
