In a PGT just after a loss. Emotions are raw and everyone is flying off the handle.
How many PGT's do we see this type of behavior?

Yeah that makes a lot more sense. Didn't hear what Ward said... that seems like a reasonable turn of events.

You’d put him on the ice and it would tilt towards your end giving the other team momentum because the team would be running around from that shift on.

When buddy Robinson is on your depth chart your team has major problems.
I guess you can say the same thing about Rinaldo though.

Powerplay Quarterback
|
In the end, the most important position is goaltending.
Jettison some contracts and back the Brinks truck up for a quality UFA keeper like Markstrom.

When your main roster and core has major problems does the depth chart matter?

They scored. In the alternate universe where those penalties don't happen, we could have still given up a goal or two in that time span to swing momentum, but I'm not a big believer in hypothetical 'momentum'.
If it was a tight 1-1 game and then someone takes a bad penalty in the offensive zone in OT that costs the game, that theoretically impacted the outcome more than anything else.
|
why are we talking about some hypotheticals? both of lucic penalties were in fact penalties and it cost flames the game. period.

I feel like the goaltending nuked the effort they were putting up.
When the other team notches 3 in quick succession to not only tie but pull ahead on rather pedestrian attempts and the goalie coming in relief looks ice cold, you have to be rattled and stunned at that point, hard to dig in and regain composure when you're suddenly vulnerable from the back end and bleeding. It's just human to struggle to recover from such a drastic turn of events.
Thing is something different let them down in every loss. They weren't all on the same page at the same time for enough of the series to pull out the win.
Although they didn't even have to be perfect to take this series, but they shot themselves in the foot enough (twice in the dying seconds) that they opened the door to the next round for Dallas, watched them walk through after being half through it themselves.
I don't know what's up with the self sabotage and this team generally just making things harder on themselves than they need to. One of the great mysteries of the world.

The team's play the whole game cost them the game. Did we lose 2-1?

I think Ward was terrible but I don't think he lied...the CP story didn't match the actual interview

Yes I reread and clarified my OP. Talbot didn't have an equipment issue he was pissed at the tie game and that he got yanked. For Ward to claim innocence what the trainer told him, that's not great either.
He should have called timeout, not pulled Talbot, for both the goaltending level on the ice to remain high ,and, try and salvage the confidence of the players who were already reeling. That confidence was not coming in the form of Rittich, who lost the players trust long ago before the break.

All I am saying is he didn't lie...Talbot probably did have an equipment issue, he was probably smashing sticks and throwing gear lol

Cmon, that first Lucic penalty call was weak... the defender went down like he was shot, barely nudged the goalie who flopped down comically. It’s the playoffs, there’s little scrums like that a hundred times a game. As far as the puck over the glass, well, it happens.

it took one injury for tobias rieder to be a 1st line player.
that's not a sign that things are good.

did their play in the first period (before lucic penalty) cost them the game? no
did their play in the third period costs them the game? no
it was the play after lucic penatlies and in the second period that cost them the game.
by the logic above, i don't see how this adds to the "whole game"

I agree I just don't think it matters...you will never win with that goaltending
Flames DOMINATED fancy stats and lost 7-3
