I actually said to my wife after the 3rd goal that 2 is the most dangerous lead in hockey but with the Flames in the playoffs, any lead is dangerous. I then put my jersey on because they weren't playing soft and she said I was being superstitious. Well they sure showed her!
Current mood:
Trade Gaudreau, Monahan, Giordano
Replace Ward
I'm at a loss on Tre. Could we let him negotiate player contracts but have someone else pick the coaches? Good grief he's terrible at that. Maybe it's Murray Edwards' fault, they don't have the budget to go after a real coach?

One was a bad call where the ref gifted them a powerplay. The other was an unlucky break that happens all the time.
They scored. In the alternate universe where those penalties don't happen, we could have still given up a goal or two in that time span to swing momentum, but I'm not a big believer in hypothetical 'momentum'.
If it was a tight 1-1 game and then someone takes a bad penalty in the offensive zone in OT that costs the game, that theoretically impacted the outcome more than anything else.

I mean, 1989 wasn't that long ago in the bigger picture. But it feels like a bit of a stretch to say it "wasn't that long ago".

I’ve heard the saying you can win a 7 games series with one win from special teams, one from coaching, one from goaltending, and one from depth.
The Flames corollary is in the first round they will lose one game from lack of discipline, one in heartbreaking fashion, one from the top line disappearing, and one from goaltending.

Is it a stretch?
Read the comments after we eliminated the Jets and our wins against the Stars.

What the #### did you expect, of course "the daggers" are coming out the team blew it. Again. In spectacular fashion. After being almost up 3 games to 1, blew that game because our coach is an idiot and put out all the players in the last minute that happened to be struggling.
But the coup de grace was yet to come, Ward found a way to top that buffoonery by putting in a goalie that has moss growing on his pads.

Man, you stay strong with what you are doing, and I'm glad you at least got to have the escape of playoff hockey.
I lost my mom during the qualifier and I am thankful for the distraction and the pure excitement. Tonight is a bitter pill but compared to reality for most people it is literally nothing, a non-issue.
The only thing I'll say is I doubt many players feel too hard done by. I wouldn't hold much against them. Coaches are making excuses in the moment.

Yup just a terrible decision to pull a goalie (with multiple playoff shutouts) in a tie elimination game in favour of a goalie who had not seen action since early March.

Today I heard somebody say one of the stupidest things I’d heard all year but I think the comment made by the Dallas coach may supersede it. It doesn’t matter who says it, it’s massively detached from reality which is what the NHL is now, let’s face it. Way, way, way too detached from reality. Not relatable at all, in any way shape or form.
It’s not just the Dallas coach saying it... it’s been alluded to all over for the last couple months building up. All the radio hosts, interviews, tv guys and pundits, everyone has talked about the sacrifices that will be made by going into this stupid bubble thing. It doesn’t change the fact that they play a game for a living are in 5 star hotels and make bazillions doing it and can easily afford to hire help. Or leave, like Rask. Whatever. So stupid and so stupid that any fans would ever try to defend it. This type of comment or insinuation should rightfully get eviscerated for the height of stupidity it is.
These people have to have almost the literal best position of human beings on earth right now. What or who would they trade their situation for? What a bunch of hilarious unhinged BS.
These guys have had it tough like Genghis Khan was a super swell dude. It’s literally a WTF Comment and doesn’t matter who says it. Literally all they should be talking about is how privileged they are and leave it at that. So ridiculous.

Yeah but that series win is like a bag of cotton candy after being forgotten by your parents at Calaway park. You’re still excited in the moment, but the abandonment issues are always there...the deep rooted issues are always right under the surface.

Talbot was back on the bench long before the end of the period and I think before the 6th goal, so if it was an equipment issue, he could've come back out.
And Talbot didn't skate to the bench right after either, which would've been a sign of that issue, Ward told Rittich to get ready right after the goal because the TV camera saw Rittich getting ready after showing the 2nd replay of the goal.
Listen to the players and they don't seem happy with the goalie pull. Talbot may have been having a moment in the tunnel, but it was because Ward stupidly pulled the plug on the teams best player in the playoffs.
Sorry, don't buy Ward's story one bit. He screwed up, huge,, so he should at least admit it.

I expected nothing less when we lose. Everyone is looking for quick answers and seems to have found them. Everyone jumps on Ward when it was a trainer that told Ward it was an equipment issue.

I think a good number of us are looking at the issues and realizing the quick answers aren’t quick at all, but rather years of building through the top end of the draft.

Johnny on the ice with a minute left is ####ing stupid if you have the lead or are tied. I legit think most CP posters could’ve coached the end of that game better than Ward did. With 0 experience

I don't think it was a good pull
Ward never said he pulled Talbot because of an equipment issue...he said he was going to put him back in earlier but Talbot wasn't on the bench and the trainer told him it was an equipment issue...big difference
I think Ward was terrible but I don't think he lied...the CP story didn't match the actual interview

He's not talking about quick answers to the roster. He's talking about quick answers to the true story about Talbot's equipment issue.
