And Ward has got them playing a comittment to defence. Something we've seen in these playoffs.

The Flames are heavily outclassed whenever Monahan is on the ice and his possession numbers are... abhorrent.

These repeated anti-Monahan diatribes are exhausting, honestly. He's a totally fine player. At one point, he was better than Leon. He has been surpassed. That doesn't lessen his quality as a player.
He has 10 goals and 21 points in 28 playoff games. He's as tough as they come, constantly battling to the tough areas where he scores goals. He is the only guy on his line driving any sort of offense at even-strength right now.
He might not be the guy. But he's a good guy to have.

Monahan is a glorified powerplay specialist at this point. He just can't keep up 5v5 anymore.

To be honest, all of the Flames 5v5 numbers are horrible vs. Dallas. They are lucky that the series is tied at this stage.
But it’s 2-2 none the less, and time to improve those numbers.

What a weird flex. What kind of Flames fan rubs in the fact an Oiler player is better than a Flames player?

huh strange I didn't know 2 points in 6 games was better than 6 points in 8 games. He's a way better player than Gaudreau based solely on that. Flames would have to add their first and Pelletier to pry Konecny out of Philly.
this was sarcastic if you didn't know

There's an odd type of fan that cares more about being right than they do about the success of the team they cheer for.
I don't get it. But there's more than a few examples of it.

Love has always been a Monahan hater though, so I discount any of his/her opinions on him, TBH. I'm guessing he/she must be some jilted ex lover or something lol.

TBH I'm more interested in the inflated opinion of Horvat.

Glorified powerplay specialist Sean Monahan, 5v5 since 2018-19:
36G 91P -9 EV (17G 45P on the PP)
2,289min EV
457min PP
Draisatl/Eichel echelon offensive specialist Bo Horvat, 5v5 since 2018-19:
28G 77P -19 EV (19G 34P on the PP)
2,467min EV
537min PP
Yeah man makes sense.

Seriously? There are hardly an examples where a team's best offensive player has a pair of linemates as good as Monahan and Lindholm.
Marchand-Bergeron-Pasta
Stamkos-Point-Kucherov (not sure if
Connor-Scheifele-Laine
Landeskog?-MacKinnon-Rantanen
Pretty much every other top line as at least one guy elevated who probably wouldn't be a very good 1st liner on his own merit (ie. not as good as Lindholm/Monahan). Johnny may find himself with a single stud who is a lot better than Elias or Sean, but I doubt the sum of his linemates will be much better than current.

Ask yourself how how often you notice him though. He’s invisible too often for my liking. I’ve often asked myself how goals he’d score without Gaudreau creating and dishing to him in front of the net and this series has shown me that he likely wouldn’t.
The Stars have completely and easily shut down Gaudreau and have taken away his time and space. So if Gaudreau ends up getting traded (very likely), where will Monahan get his goals? He’s not flying up the middle past the defender and putting one top corner. He’s not losing himself in coverage and unleashing a one time clapper. He’s not going end to end deking everyone out and undressing the goaltender. He’s not getting dirty in front of the net and tipping in pucks like Tkachuk can.
He is what he is. He’s en elite finisher from in and around the crease. He can elevate the puck in tight. He can score in the slot when he has space. All this requires a high end playmaker and if the Flames trade that guy, I’d rather the Flames trade Monahan too to maximize his value.
