Enough with all of the penalties. 5 in a row firmly planted this team on its heels and there was no coming back really.
Spend tomorrow practising breakouts all day. It is getting very tiring watching them get hemmed in.
I really do get the negativity (we do cheer for the Flames after all) but I remember the 04 cup run and it sure wasn't a complete and utter domination for the team that year either.
I'd this team crashes and burns now then Treliving has all that he needs to make changes and send out the players who don't up their game.
If they buckle down and win this series I think we could safely say that would be a big growing moment for this team.

Flames are out-sized and not built for the grind of the playoffs. Looked like they were exhausted and only trying to survive OT.

Those are a couple quick examples but I'm sure there are others. The game evolves and changes in different ways and I'm in the camp that being without a stick is more of a handicap then rushing to get another one.

Agreed. Also, you can cheat it if you go to the bench - instead of them passing you a stick so that you have to skate to the bench and then turn around and skate back, just have another guy jump on and the player without a stick jump off.
1) he can jump off before the other guy gets there
2) he doesn't have to turn around

Not at all. Like I said a page or two earlier, the storyline is different.
Last year, the Flames were the big favorites and simply didn't show up to play or put in any effort.
This year, the Flames are the underdogs and are visibly showing more effort, but they're still getting absolutely obliterated 5v5 and are completely relying on Talbot to steal them games.
Either way, the conclusions are still the same in the end: back-to-back years of pathetic play 5v5 and relying on their goalie.
Without incredible special teams so far, the Flames would stand zero chance.

I missed the game, but saw the shot totals. Was Talbot that good again or were there some bad goals?

He wasn't amazing, but I wouldn't call any of the goals bad. Some seemed saveable though.

If only we could set up an area for them, a preserve so to speak where we could observe them through sound proof glass and do scientific experiments on them.

Talbot was solid. Not really a goal to be faulted.
Flames played well enough win for most of the game, but took a lot of penalties, and just got fed late in the 3rd and that carried into the 3rd.
If they lose this series they'll look back at giving up the lead with 12s to go to go up 3-1

I mean, almost 60 saves. He had to be something.

He made a lot of saves. He also let in 5 goals. At the end of the day, we've seen some 15 save performances where the goalie had to stop multiple breakaways, and we've seen 50+ save performances where the goalie stopped a lot of shots but nothing that was sure to go in. This was the latter

The flames spent 5 mins on the PP v 11:30 for the Stars. Most of that in the 3rd.
That’s the story.
It’s ok to say the Stars earned it, the flames were undisciplined, the coaches failed to adjust or the Flames players should have managed better.
To say the Stars dominated and are far and away the better team is dumb.

However, 5 straight PP'S for Dallas, some suspect, at least one complete BS (the call on Talbot). Not one makeup. Not one to ensure the calls look even (I disagree that they should look even but thats the way the fame is called).
The officiating was bad this game. I think the lack of makeup was due to the short handed goal, which isn't an excuse.
Dallas got away with a number of calls late. After spending half the period on the PP, that shouldn't have happened.
|
They disregarded one side since the start of the third and had a hand in the Stars scoring the first two periods, but EVEN if we let the first 40 slide, the officiating in the third was pretty unforgivable.
Blatant infraction on I think mangi or dube with three minutes left, distinctive compared to the last five in a row called on the flames and they looked the other way.
Dallas should've been penalty killing in the final minutes.
The overall play aside, that's a failure by the guys in stripes and even if the team was sputtering late, the Flames probably win if the officals are doing their job even half-adequately in the third.
They also absolutely turned the momentum at multiple points with non calls against the grain of the play. However, that's on the flames to not let it affect them.

The way the Flames played in OT, they had no right to win. They looked like a bunch of bumbling penguins.

Flames played better, hard to get in a good rhythm when the Refs will call every little hook/slash on you but let Benn & Co run picks and do the exact same with no calls.
Few bad breaks and it could very well be 3-1 for us.
Hardly close to being series over for the Flames.

If Pavelski hadn't scored to tie it, we'd be talking about how Talbot won them the game in the third, so I'm still not blaming him for this at all. I guess he could have got the Gurianov one if he'd read it, but it was a royal road one timer and a pretty hard shot. None of the goals were bad goals.

Just take the ####ing icing so we at least have every player with a stick FFS.

The officiating was far from perfect but not the reason they lost. You can knit pick all you want, some favourable for Calgary too (Janmark slash, Oliksiak trip, the no call on the hook on Heiskinen at the end of the 3rd).
Its concerning the amount of rubber and defending they have to do against a relatively average Dallas team.
Giordano looks like our worst defence-men. Just completely lost and slow out there.

Yeah no matter what happens in this series I think a couple of things have happened that encourage me. Specifically the emergence of a few players that could be the new core: Dube, Sam, Andersson and I’ve also generally liked Hanifin. Eat bread hasn’t been great but he’s in that group too
And perhaps that demonstrates that you can make some changes to other personnel perhaps thought untouchable
Also has interesting expansion ramifications
