Realizing the NHL didn't agree he's backpedaling now after being a little embarrassed about his rant. I get that in the moment there's some anger and frustration about the injury and how the game went for the Jets but his post game comments were way, way over the top.
Paul Maurice is #5 in all time games coached in the NHL. Does he have a reputation for calling players dirty? I can not recall of any incidents prior to this one.
Tkachuk will have a long and successful career, but his playing over the edge has a downside as he will be under extra referee scrutiny.
Wait, aren't you the guy who wines about how soft this team is? But you also don't think they should finish checks? Tkachuk is exactly what this team needs. No buts.
Man, oh man, this game made me realize how much I've been missing seeing these two posts in a PGT...

#Flames head coach Geoff Ward on Tkachuk:
“I feel at this point in time I have to defend my player. Was there intent there to put his skate on Scheifele? No. There was no intent. I understand what Paul is doing. He’s trying to get an elite player on our team suspended.”

#Flames coach Geoff Ward adamant Matthew Tkachuk had no intent to injure. Says Paul Maurice is trying to get an elite player suspended and create energy for his own group. "If it was Johnny Gaudreau instead of Matthew Tkachuk, we're probably not even talking about it."

Geoff Ward should probably get a re-vote in the coaches poll on the basis of just this game. What a terrific performance by him in the past 24 hours.

I agree. I have been one of his loudest critics. But I liked the lines and player usage last night, like the adjustment to put Gustafsson on the PP, and loved the PK.
Hard to argue with success, and little to complain about last night.

An eerily similar play just occurred in the Flyer/Bruin game and no one is even hinting that it was intentional. Raffl couldnt put an ounce of weight on his leg going off either, after being hit by Lauzon.
That alone should be enough to shut the mindless morons up. But it wont.

Hockey Guy mentioned this at the top of his review, but it kind of got lost in the wake of the game.
At 01:22 of the first period Lindholm lays a huge check in the offensive zone, and it looks right from the start that the top line was going to start the cycle, and then for some reason the officials stop play, and settle into a scrum.
It really felt to me that this one weird moment messed up Calgary's timing, and it took the rest of the period for them to get back into the flow and re-establish the game-pace. I wonder, were it not for that odd stoppage, would Calgary have had a better start in the period? It sure feels like a key moment in hindsight.

Yeah I kind of missed what happened. Just saw Lauzon leaving.

The puck was shot out of play...they scrummed to decide if it was deflected or shot straight out...they decided it was touched so no delay of game penalty was assessed.

If it did disrupt them that much, that is on them.
As for the incident though, and the discussion by the refs, I was surprised at how clueless the commentators were. It was obvious, and the reply showed it clearly, that the Jets defenseman shot the puck over the boards. The refs were discussing of it went straight out and should be a penalty (looked like it did).
But the commentators are talking about whether they were going to penalize Lindholm. Big miss there.
