Murray could be a decent buy low candidate, has proven play off experience and success, and is still just entering the prime age for a goalie.
Not without risk though, he had a pretty bad season this year.

I don’t think you can properly evaluate any player in this Covid time period as to their values going forward, no matter how they do in playoffs this year, and project it long term. For the enigmas that are goalies, that’s the case exponentially.
Some goalies may get 3 games in a play in, and even if they play well but lose, they are off for another 4 months until November or December, with 3 games in 8 months. That’s a lot of rust, and in game action when it comes to training camp and next season.
I’d say you’d have to see how players, and goalies do, into at least the late second round or third round of the playoffs to get a good gauge as to where they really are at, and playing anything less you just have no idea of how they actually will be next year.
But even if they do get to the third round, the absolute upside down way this season has turned in every aspect, and playing in a bubble etc doesn’t mean they play the same way or not when things normalize next season (sort of).

Cam York....because Gio is getting old and the left side D will be weak once he's done....
Did he happen to see Hanifin, Valimaki, Mackey and Kylington on our depth chart?
Our biggest need in our prospect pool is a potential top 6 C, not a left handed shooting Dman.
That's just one thing wrong with proposal.
The first thing was saying Gaudreau has the same value now as Pacioretty did back when he was traded.

I would rather let JG walk for nothing than take that insulting offer.

Oh my god the first comment after that awful trade proposal:
Quote:
This article states that Johnny G isn’t effective in the playoffs. JVR is not bad in playoff action, so why would the Flyers make this dumb trade, plus add a valued prospect and a high draft pick to sweeten the pot. Better to wait two years and sign Geudrow as a free agent than give away the house knowing that next season may not even happen due to Covid. Calgary is simply trying to rob a naive Chuck Fletcher here. Hope he doesn’t do it.

Even if the Flyers ate 50% of JVR's cap hit, this is still a lousy deal for the Flames.
While they're at it, why not propose that the Flames trade Gaudreau to Edmonton for James Neal. I mean, he has a longer contract remaining than Gaudreau, so it would be better to take on that contract than to let Gaudreau walk in 2 years for nothing, right?

Somebody should write an article offering Lucic, Kylington, and a 2nd for Giroux. See how that goes.

I actually really like Dadanov.
He also scores on us every game we play against the Cats. If they hurt you, recruit them.

When I was looking at scoring league wide 5v5 points per 60min, I remember seeing Dadanov's name really high up there.
Good luck convincing a high profile Russian to sign in Calgary though.

Yeah Friedman reported that the Flames were one of the finalists before he signed with Chicago.

Seriously the offer is not great but with some of the proposals on here, I think we're setting ourselves up for disappointment. Cozens and a 1st? Konecny? Point?? Bit of a pipe dream. I'm not disputing that that may be "fair value", I'm only saying that the team trading a superstar rarely gets full value in return.
Honestly if we can use the Pacioretty trade as a framework and get a solid prospect like Suzuki in return, plus some other pieces (like a top 6 winger and a pick), I think that's a fairly realistic expectation. If Tre can get something like Cozens + 1st, I would be pleasantly surprised.

I've been a vocal as anyone about the expectations of a return for Johnny, but comparing him to Pacioretty is foolish.
When/if Calgary trades Johnny, they likely won't be looking to take back any meaningful cap hit, and certainly won't be looking to take an a older, more expensive and lesser player.
The basic problem in the article was using the Pacioretty trade as a framework. Apples and oranges.

Why would you trade him now unless you get full value or better?
You can get that #### deal on the deadline right before he goes UFA (actually you still likely do better)

Ive heard some say the Stone trade would be a good comparable for Gaudreau, which was a top prospect like Brannstrom and a 2nd.
Thing is though, the Sens had to trade Stone immediately or they would have him play out the string and then lose him for nothing when the season ended. They also were limited by his preference for who he wanted to sign an extension with so they essentially couldn't just deal him anywhere they wanted to the highest bidder. With Johnny having two years left and the Flames not having to trade him right away or lose him for nothing, Id expect a bigger return than Stone got if he is traded this off season.
