Why 8? With that rumored number we could probably get away with a contract @ the Tkachuk cap.

Man, I was thinking an $8 million AAV for Hall was the best we could hope for. Less than that would be real nice.

After we win the cup this year he’ll want to sign for a discount.

7x$7.5M would be a good contract for both sides in my eyes. Hall wants to prioritize winning, and with a stagnant cap being announced for at least the next 2 years, Hall will need to take something around that to help his team stay competitive.

I really do hope he signs here.

Same, mainly because I think the guy would be super motivated to win at home with a decently competitive team around him after the last few clubs he's cycled through where he was relied on to do the heavy lifting offensively to no avail in the standings.

Oh I agree, I just meant that getting him for anything up to 8x7 could be a huge win for our franchise. I hope that it might be even less. 8x7 for Hall in context of some other league contracts seems like a great deal to me.

From Friedman's 31 Thoughts:
Quote:
I think the Coyotes’ offer to Taylor Hall was five years, $7.25-million AAV. That’s not a final offer from what I can tell, and we’ll see if they become more aggressive. I think situation is as important to Hall as anything.
Also of interest:
Quote:
Evgenii Dadonov and Mike Hoffman, Florida. The Panthers are expected to cut payroll. They’re both free agents. Hoffman had 29 goals this year, Dadonov 25.
Quote:
David Rittich and Cam Talbot, Calgary. Do they convince the Flames not to try something bold in net? And how will on-ice performance dictate decisions to be made in Tampa Bay, Toronto and Vancouver?

Yeah that makes sense. Either way, it suggests the market on Hall shouldn't be outrageous hopefully.

Also can't imagine Hall considers Arizona too heavily given his reported desire to got to a team with stability and a chance to win.

It would be crazy for Hall not to test to see what he can get.

I think the play-in and playoffs (if the Flames win the play in) will have a major influence in this.

Lehner and Markstrom pending UFA's, Murray/Jarry and Georgiev potentially available via trade.

With Talbot a pending UFA and 32 years old, if Rittich shats the bed the Flames may look for a better long term option.

Murray could be a decent buy low candidate, has proven play off experience and success, and is still just entering the prime age for a goalie.

Not without risk though, he had a pretty bad season this year.

I doubt that the market on any UFA will be quite as much as it has been previously due to lack of cap room with many teams, but it only takes 2 teams who want a certain player to drive the price up for the premium UFA's.

That player may be Hall. Or it may not.

There may actually be some bargains among the non-premium but still good UFA's.

You might actually see some decent players having to settle for shorter terms like 3-4 years.

I think the flat cap implications are overblown, and not likely to depress AAVs at the high end very much.

Aside from the few most legitimate contenders, teams shouldn’t have been planning to spend every penny of their projected cap years into the future.

Also, we’re just one year away from adding another $80M of cap space in the league overall.

Upside (highest potential for success): 1. Lehner 2. Murray 3. Markstrom
Downside (Highest potential of failure): 1. Murray 2. Lehner 3. Markstrom
Asset Cost to Acquire (highest to lowest): 1. Murray T2: Lehner T2:Markstrom
Contract cost: 1. Lehner 2. Murray 3. Markstrom

I think Markstrom is the best of what's available all things considered. But I am not yet sold on the need to sign a new look in net this offseason (yet.)

Easily one of the most cringe worthy proposals I have ever read.

That was especially bad when he said “now that we’ve’ established his trade value LOL.

He basically just decided to ignore the year difference in contract length.

That is atrocious. He says the Flames would want to clear cap space for Tkachuk... And then trades Gaudreau for someone MORE expensive.

I love it when people pile up their crap, marvel at how big the pile is, and completely disregard that the pile is comprised of crap.

and the tier of player.

Patches career high? 67 points.

That trade proposal is written by someone with a complete lack of hockey knowledge.
