I really feel like the issue in AZ is more with coaching. The Coyotes play terrific defensive hockey but they can't score worth a damn despite the GM acquiring some seriously talented offensive players. Kessel, Hall, Schmaltz, Keller, Stepan, Soderberg, Dvorak, Garland, Grabner... these guys are all good players but it's just not clicking for whatever reason. I find it hard to fault the GM for their lack of execution. I think he's done well in a really hard market to operate inside.

I guess in this case, trade Gaudreau and drop Mangiapane to the 3rd line.
I don't think we could get much of an upgrade at C in this scenario, due to the salary cap, so maybe acquire a right shot RW?

Haha, what else is there to do until they start playing?
I mean we could get back to discussing whether or not Bennett is getting a fair shake...

So using my hypothetical, I say keep all the main players, move Lindholm to C and take a run at it for one season..or maybe even two, as all the RFA's would be depth players and the only big UFA would be Ryan after year one...it's a lot of left shots, but what the heck...
Sam Bennett for Madison Bowey (Re-sign 2 x $2,000,000 AAV)
Oliver Kylington for Christian Fischer (Re-sign Fischer to his QO of $874,125 AAV)
Hall is signed for 7 years x $7,750,000 AAV
Re-sign Mangiapane 2 x $2,250,000 AAV
Re-sign Gawdin to his QO of $787,500 AAV
Re-sign UFA's Rinaldo and Stone (or vet comparables) to league min 1 x $750,000
J. Gaudreau - Sean Monahan - Matthew Tkachuk
Taylor Hall - Elias Lindholm - A. Mangiapane
A. Lafreniere - Mikael Backlund - Dillon Dube
Milan Lucic - Derek Ryan - Christian Fischer
Rinaldo/Gawdin
Mark Giordano - Rasmus Andersson
Noah Hanifin - Madison Bowey
Jusso Valimaki - Michael Stone
Connor Mackey
David Rittich
XXXXXXXX
Leaves $2,449,209 to sign a back-up/platoon goalie
That'd be fun for a season or maybe two...

Laf is not going to be a Franchise winger here, and the 2 centers set to go behind him likely will be the smarter picks. I mean.. Byfield was just as close to go #1 overall anyway for most of last year and the first 1/4 this year. I think his poor showing at the WJHC set him back a bit even though he was an underage player people expected to see more.
|
While I am not opposed to trading down if we get #1, why would playing for the Flames mean Laf will not become a franchise winger?

Isn't it more like 6.25% at this point? Which isn't far off our best chances from the down years (8-10%ish)

The chances of Hall signing and getting first overall are much lower than that

The chances are 50%.
Either they happen...or they don't.

I haven’t made any personal attacks, certainly no more than you have towards me. I’ve just pointed out, and disagreed, with the ridiculous ill informed things you have said such as:
Taylor Hall is dumb
Taylor Hall is a quitter
Taylor Hall has only had one good season
Brad Treliving should be fired if he doesn’t do something
Compliance buyouts have nothing to do with the CBA
Jeff Skinner will certainly be a compliance buyout
Smaller market NHL teams will literally fold.
All this within the last season. There’s some things in there that are flat out wrong, or some pretty low rent takes. And it’s not that you’ve said these things, it’s you’ve said them in a way that they’re fact and anyone who disagrees is a fool. Be better man.
It’s funny you look down your nose at Eric Francis because it seems like you’re cut from the same ‘hot take’ cloth. At least he gets paid, probably very well, to do it and probably knows that is his shtick. I don’t care for his stuff either. Getting riled up, or even acknowledging his content, is kind of like booing Bobby the brain Heenan. Why? Who cares?
It’s also funny that you like to throw out every now and again that something you’ve read here is so stupid that it would only belongs on HF boards. People who post here are just as smart, or stupid, as any other fan base you will find anywhere.
You should probably get off the imaginary pedestal you’ve put yourself on.

Good God you are just obsessed aren't you? Like a 13 year old girl following Justin Bieber on Twitter. If you are actually an adult it is pretty scary. Every post I make you attack me. Get a new hobby.

Not saying I disagree (because of the flat cap). But it's crazy that Hall would make less than Keller, who I'd argue had not really been earning his contract.

I think if we can sign hall to 8x6 that is a good contract moving forward.
