It was very clear, I stated who was signed for what amount, if they weren't listed they weren't signed and thus off the books.

You can always buy some more cap space by moving Ryan too. As nice as it is to have him in the bottom 6, I'd rather have all of Hall, Gaudeau, Lindholm, Tkachuk, Monahan and Mangiapane in the top 6 plus a somewhat salvageable top 4 D group.
Who knows, maybe Lucic will suddenly become allergic to hockey equipment and long plane rides...

Can also count Jankowski and Bennett in that mix if we really need cap space.

I honestly don't see any spots for those two anymore, not if we sign Hall. And if we sign Hall and want to keep Gaudreau, then Ryan starts to inch towards the chopping block too.
There will be a fricken crap load of decent depth NHLers signing for league minimum contracts this next off season with the flat cap. Guys that can easily replace Janko and Bennett for a fraction of the cost.
Unless some sort of miracle happens with Lucic that is. Like an early retirement, official or unofficial.

Neither Hall or Gaudreau play centre so why does that make Ryan vulnerable? Also who plays 4th line C?

It makes him vulnerable because he carries a bigger cap hit and the Flames will need that space to have those big guns up top. I would assume Lindholm would play his share of C bumping Backs to 3C.
4th line C could be Dube, Gawdin, Rinaldo, an unqualified Janko on a league min contract or a UFA like Logan Shaw, Shore, Girgensons, Larsson, Nosek, Thompson, Lewis.....literally dozens of options rather than paying our 4th line C over 3 million.
Actually now that I think of it, might be hard to trade a guy like Ryan with the piles if free agents there will be signing for near league minimum.

I think he is looking at contracts to make room for having Hall and Gaudreau.
I think for the Flames to have pulled that off it would have had to go down this season and by several accounts it got close but the Devils preferred the futures based package. Also pretty sure the Flames needed Hall to be extended to go through with the deal.

The problem is, Ryan's not a 4C. He's closer to 2C quality than he is to 4C quality. He is an elite 3C and that's not the kind of guy you're going to be able to adequately replace with a 5- to 10-point guy like Nick Shore or Logan Shaw.
I would much sooner make other sacrifices.

Youd be replacing him with Backlund.
Hall replace Lindholm
Lindholm replace Backlund
Backlund replace Ryan
Ryan replace Janko
A trickle down effect.
Of course if the Flames need the cap space then you have to replace Ryan with someone home grown or a cheap UFA.

I like the player and especially his skating.
I know Hall's from Calgary but so what. Look up "injury prone" in the encyclopedia and you'll see his picture. He has lost the better part of 3 seasons hurt and 70 games is a good year for him. He has one play off round of experience so no big attraction there. Seems like more than a couple of Flames mid level players have to be let go for zip to afford him. Let 1 go okay, but 3 guys walk for no return? To get Hall?
Guadreau and Tkachuk are both talented natural LWs. Maybe Gaudreau does get traded and opens the door but you know most teams want cap for cap in a trade. I do like Halls game when he's going but at best 7-8 mill for 2-3 years ? He's still the prize of free agency and likely won't sign for 6 mill or less. I ain't seeing it and don't care if he's from Calgary and wants to come home.

You need to google Taylor Hall and look a little closer and stop spewing these myths.
Taylor Hall has only missed significant time in one season out of the last 5.

I'd happily move Bennett and Janko to facilitate Hall and Gaudreau together for at least next season.
No offense to the Bennett fanboys still holding out hope that there's a 50-point, hard-nosed Diet Lanny still in there somewhere.
Regular season Bennett is extremely replaceable right now.

What does Bennett have to do with anything? Replacing him with a similar player doesn't save much money, if any. Same thing with Ryan. People are looking in the wrong places for any movement that needs to take place. Moving 2-3M players doesn't move the needle unless you're replacing with an ELC.

An ELC or a league minimum contract. It all adds up.

The obvious answer here is to move Mark Giordano, but they will never do that in a million years.
Trading him will net the Flames some really good assets and some cap space they can use to sign Hall and a #4 defenceman.

Gawdin / Phillips / Pelletier / little Z I think could all make strong bids to fill those roster spots in the next training camp.
Giordano really is the most sensible large contract to move. But the team has a thing for hanging on to their leaders long after the best before date for im guessing sentimental reasons.
