Ottawa has ammunition, I’d ask for NYI’s 1st and OTT’s 2nd with the 3rd OA for me to move #1.

Yeah, so:
1st OA for 3rd OA + 18th OA~ + 33rd OA
That's sounds about right IMO

Habs have 9th OA and three 2nd rounders (39th, 40th, 61st)
I don't see anyone dropping that far for just three 2nds, I wonder what roster players or picks they would be willing to include.

Exactly. We tried to jump from what was Monahan 6? And our other two first rounders around 23 and 27 to get Mackinnon.
It all depends on how teams value Laf. I have a feeling he is going to be an absolute superstar especially now landing on a non bottom 5 team.

I think you’ve got to take Laf. He’s ready to make a difference NOW.
I wonder if going for Hall changes if we do in fact win 1st OA.

I skipped over this post, but I wouldn’t move 1st OA to Montreal unless they did the following:
1st OA + Lucic for Montreal’s 1st, Gallagher, Suzuki and a 2022 1st if Gallagher doesn’t re-sign in Calgary.
That’s way too much fro Montreal, in fact, a gross overpayment that makes no sense. But, that’s what it would take for me to say yes. There’s a significant gap between 1st and 2nd/3rd, then another drop off in talent. I’m gonna make the team wanting 1st OA to pay.

I'm confused, why would that affect winning first OA?
Maybe I haven't been keeping up with the new rules.

I think he means maybe our interest in Hall changes if we were to draft another future #1 LWer in Lafreniere.

If you Have Lafreniete, you don't need to sign Hall and the core stays and Johnny doesn't get traded.
I think they still sign Hall and even if they pick Lafreniere and move Johnny regardless. Asset management etc etc.

If they won #1 and decided to take Laferniere, plus were able to sign Hall, I would seriously consider moving both Gaudreau and Tkachuk. Both are flight risks to the US, both could easily command $10 million or more against the cap and most importantly, both should be able to return a massive pile of good young assets in the form of young high end C's which is a pretty large hole in the Flames depth chart right now IMO.
Hall and Laf would be the top two LWers for the next 5+ years, plus you could turn Johnny and Chucky into young C's & RW's to go along with Monahan and Lindholm.

Draft Laf, sign Hall, trade Gaudreau for a package including a Cozens level center prospect coming back. If by some divine miracle we get that pick, could definitely see it shaking out that way. And if the cap does flatten for the coming seasons then its all the more likely that Gaudreau fetches a desirable haul.
Tre always struck me as a BPA guy over need/position based on past selections.
Hall - Monahan - Lindholm
Lafreniere - Backlund - Tkachuk

Not Tkachuk. You do what you have to to get him locked up long term.
He's what you hope and pray any of your pile of prospects turns into.
Hes going to be a player that you win with for a number of years. You don't toss that away for even good magic beans just because you're worried about him wanting to go home. Most players are not playing where they're from, and that concern is being way overblown.
At some point the Flames will have to pay a player 10M to nail down their core. I dont have an issue with the first being Matthew.

speculated for months from the La Presse in Montreal...
...a deal would have to include the likes of Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Cayden Primeau, and at least one first-round-pick
|
Max Domi would be an option to substitute one of the players mentioned. And this is coming from Montreal papers and bloggers. They really want a french speaking superstar, and are willing to pay out the nose for one.

No, Lafreniere is a LW compared to Huberdeau.
Byfield is a 6'4" C compared to Malkin and Kopitar.
Lafreniere is also 18 years, 8 months old compared to Byfield who is 17 years, 10 months old. Also a whole year difference which is another reason Byfield is extra intriguing for many.

(Assuming a lottery win) I wonder what the Kings would pay to move from #2 to #1?
They have a couple of nice RH prospects and a ton of picks this year.
Dropping down to Byfield and picking up a big skilled RH centre like Vilardi would give us a ton of depth.

I dont think there is any way that its an "if" any longer.
This, and all leagues, are going to see hugely reduced revenues for at least 2 years.

Moving from 3rd to 1st will cost you quite a bit more than a 2nd round. It’s not anywhere close to moving up from, say, 17 to 15.

Not nearly enough. When there is a consensus number 1 pick it will cost both top 5 choices to move up. Maybe a small plus going with the top pick but no way a mid first and a second get it done
The Flames offered 3 first rounders for the MacKinnon pick and Colorado shut that down quickly mind you that was moving from 6 to 1

I love Monahan, but just imagine this team with MacKinnon or Barkov rather than Monahan, Klimchuk and Poirier, with all else having stayed the same!
