I don't buy that someone would tie a noose in Alabama without thinking they tying a noose. I wouldn't casually tie a rope into a noose and leave it around my office and not expect to be fired. People in the south grow up with a bunch of friends doing a bunch of racist things, sometimes without much thought or even emotion behind it. I'm sure casually tying nooses is one of those things. I don't think the person needs to necessarily be fired or have their life ruined, but hopefully people continue to learn and grow from this.

Assuming that was tied as a door pull when the old one frayed off and you are the janitor or maintenance guy at the speedway I suspect your life isn't important enough to be ruined.
That said if I was black bearing in mind we are talking NASCAR and the old south I would assume that was meant as a noose.

I often causally draw swastikas while on calls at work.

That's not exactly an easy knot to tie. I doubt a janitor or maintenance person is going to take the time to tie something that elaborate when a simple slip knot would suffice.

How or why does one learn to tie that knot? Typically someone that either wants to hang someone or hang themselves? Maybe an employee planned to end their life and got cold feet or didn't get a chance to get the job done at that spot?

Or the garage door kept coming down with him, so he gave up?

I guess it can be used to tie fishing line, so there is a practical non-lynching reason why a person could know how to tie a hangman's knot. There's likely a significant overlap between people who work in NASCAR garages and people who fish.

Well, that's a pretty clear image and I can now totally understand why Wallace and his team reacted like they did. The original angle made it look fairly generic, but that looks exactly like a noose. And in that respect, while it's likely not the intent, I see why people, including the FBI, continue to refer to it as a noose.
With the context of the pressure he must have faced after the FBI report it's completely understandable why Wallace had that tone on Tuesday. Symbolic or functional, that certainly is a "straight up noose".
Pretty happy to be completely wrong about this and have any suspicions quashed.

It's not that hard a knot to tie:
https://www.wikihow.com/Tie-a-Hangman%27s-Noose
Knowing how to tie all sorts of knots is useful. It's not only used for hanging.

I've tied nooses just for fun, not recently, but certainly when I was younger. It's a fun knot and they're hard enough to do that you can impress other boys and they'll usually want to learn how to tie it too.
Aren't NASCAR teams constantly traveling? It seems really unlikely that whoever tied the knot is actually from Alabama.

Chances are whoever tied the knot, assuming it is just a door pull, is a maintenance guy at the track, the teams don't fix the doors

I found it morbidly entertaining to tie nooses when I was an early teenager. Nothing racist or suicidal about it, just a different knot to tie that makes a moody 14-year-old feel a bit badass without really any understanding or weight to the context.
Not that the argument is still being had, but that should obviously put to bed the attack on Wallace's character. It's a noose, no doubt about it. It's also a garage pull and not directed towards Wallace. It was easily understandable that it always could have been and likely was both those things once the investigation was completely, so I don't really think I'll ever understand why someone would take issue with calling it a noose.
I don't even think whoever tied the noose, if they're named, will be in trouble. I think Scroopy said it best, in that this just seems to be the worst possible coincidence at the worst possible timing, but there doesn't seem to be anything sinister about it from any of the parties involved.

Yeah, I mean if someone showed me that picture I would 100% see it as a threat even as a white guy. That's a hangman noose.

I don't follow NASCAR and didn't know who Bubba Wallace was before this, but it is a little troubling that some people automatically started questioning his motives. That shouldn't really be the default position for anyone. I would hate to think that this will prevent other people from reporting similar events.

This case from last year is being re-opened- The death of Elijah McClean.
His last words, as captured by police bodycams that somehow didn't record video
"I can’t breathe. I have my ID right here... My name is Elijah McClain. That’s my house. I was just going home. I’m an introvert. I’m just different. That’s all. I’m so sorry. I have no gun. I don’t do that stuff. I don’t do any fighting. Why are you attacking me? I don’t even kill flies. I don’t eat meat. But I don’t judge people, I don’t judge people who do eat meat. Forgive me. All I was trying to do was become better... I will do it... I will do anything. Sacrifice my identity, I’ll do it. I'll do it. You all are phenomenal. You are beautiful and I love you. Try to forgive me. I’m a mood Gemini. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. Ow, that really hurt. You are all very strong. Teamwork makes the dream work."
