Was anyone here ever that kid that tried to fake a book report in school?
Don Lemon somehow just got paid to do that.
He never understands the issue. In this old interview, Morgan Freeman does a documentary about income inequality around the world and Lemon tries to spin it talking about blacks in America. Freeman dismisses it out of hand. I mean, Freeman was born in 1937, in Tennessee.

I’ve been to Minneapolis...nice city. Not going there again.
Since you posted this immediately after a post stating they’ve voted to replace the police that just murdered yet another black man I assume you mean you will not be visiting Minneapolis because of the change in the public safety system?

Yes I'm sure people and companies that make major financial decisions on the back of a couple of weeks worth of temporary dislocation that will look completely different in a few months will thrive and prosper
I don’t remember that as a stipulation to what he was saying.
Maybe go back to complaining baby boomers are the reason your still renting.
You probably shouldn’t need a stipulation added for what’s fairly common sense, we just sort of have to assume you know it or the conversation is gonna move REAL slow. As has been said, some jobs can have small minded idiots that act out to make up for their smallness. Nobody gives a damn if you want to go power tripping on your McDonalds coworkers, Yoho, but when a police officer does it, people get hurt, not just a bad batch of fries.
Atlanta police chief to resign over shooting of Rayshard Brooks Friday night.
Mr. Brooks fell asleep at the Wendy’s drive-thru. Other customers are driving around him, so the police were called. Mr Brooks failed a sobriety test and resisted arrest.
Definitely not saying he should’ve died for that. But taking a cop’s taser and then pointing it at him is not the best idea, even if you think you may need it to defend yourself against said cops. The article suggests that he took “what appeared to be a taser”; apparently they are going to look for more proof in surveillance videos after they are enhanced.
Again, I’m not saying Mr. Brooks deserved to be killed. Sleeping in a drive-through shouldn’t carry a death penalty, as the mayor states in the article. But grabbing “what appeared to be a taser” and pointing it- do not even try. He was probably scared to death. Sooooo much needs to be done!

The issue is going to be he was running away from the cops when he was shot, granted turning around as he ran and pointing the taser vaguely towards them (he was running away at full stride so not a hope he was aiming) but he was at least 20 foot or more away, again any of us do what the cop did we go to jail, no ifs ands or buts.

I don’t know if I posted about this case in the past. Really, really tragic and horrifying.
Corey did have a gun, but was running away from the plainclothes officer (Raja) and it was later proven Raja never identified himself as a cop. Forensics showed that the location of Corey’s gun when found showed he was not a threat to Raja.
I agree with you, afc. Of course the cop is going to claim self-defense. I think people should actually start doing practice drills for possible cop encounters. Hands up should become second nature.
About 10 years ago I stopped at a gas station for drinks and snacks on my way to a Panthers game. As I turned to approach the register there was a deputy pointing a gun at me. I often wonder what might have happened if my hands weren’t full and I reached to scratch my butt or something due to nerves.
The attendant screamed “That’s not her”. In the corner crouching behind the coffee machine was my virtual twin, right down to the blue hoodie and jeans. Thing is she had a whopping large knife.
I do wonder what would have happened if I were black. I probably would have assumed the worst, and perhaps acted accordingly. I was thinking, oh, they must know I’m the wrong person. And honestly a bit of privilege came out.
I had already had some horrible experiences with cops. A rape case, and a couple of other situations. They don’t seem to take women very seriously.
But if you’re rich or can throw names around- you’re in. I was falsely accused of something by a female neighbor. Even though I could prove my innocence at the time the cops were not interested. Why? She was Miss Polo Queen, with all the name-dropping and connections. They did not listen to my side of the story at all, and the consequences were pretty devastating. Am in the process of a name change as it just never ends.
So I can only have imagine how it is for a black person. There are people who know my side of the story, but what if you’re Black and the “right” people don’t care? That’s ultimately what it amounts to.

I think that cop will be charged too. That was really bad. They have to realize someone getting away is an option. They have dozens of officers, cars, dogs, choppers. The guy had a burned out taser and was being arrested for falling asleep in a drive through.

They had his car so it wasn't like he was going to get away anyway, you do have to wonder just how stupid these cops are

“Vaguely” points a weapon (which can and most likely will completely incapacitate you) at police and you’re upset he was shot. You know what AFC, I’m so sick of your holier than though takes because you run a f’in group home or have foster kids or whatever. You wouldn’t last a shift if you put your big boy pants on and had to deal with REAL issues. You’re the absolute worst. Contribute nothing and escalate everything.

I don't know if you've seen all the video, but he was running AWAY from the cop, not towards the cop, also the (cops own) taser which the man had had already been "fired" so was pretty much useless. They shot a man who was not a threat and fleeing away from the police. I also thnk this would've been a very short foot pursuit. No way was this cop in danger. There had to have been about a dozen better options then shooting the man in the back.
Ironically had they used more force earlier in the arrest, he would've not been able to flea. Maybe a couple baton swats across the knees from cop B while the struggle was going in with Cop A.

I have not seen the video and I will review same immediately. If my initial post is wrong after reviewing same I will absolutely apologize. Your last paragraph raises and interesting point. You mentioned that had the police used MORE force in the initial interaction the suspect would not have been able to flee. Which raises the point that many regular police officers are now scared sh*tless to use force out of fear of being labelled a racist or a corrupt cop despite carrying out their duties lawfully. I don’t want to see ANYONE die. Civilian, suspect, Cop, anyone period.
I linked this article, written by a former police officer, a few pages back. The author talks about all the various ways that cops destroy people's lives and get away with murder (sometimes literally) without making society any safer for anyone. But he's also sympathetic to his former colleagues-in-blue. He doesn't blame the issue of police brutality on individual bad officers but on a broken system that turns even the most well-meaning of police recruits into monsters.

“...police unions are extremely overpowered...”
And we’re not immune here either. A Toronto cop arrested for his part in underage sex trafficking is only suspended with pay.
