Ridiculous that the family even needed to do this to prove it.

But keep sitting on your mantle in the great white north..

Has there been literally a single news story about protestors breaking into suburbanites homes and attacking newborn babies or is that something your imagination came up with all on its own?

It should be easy to say no matter where you are, if you're a reasonable, rational person.

"I'm concerned about escalating violence in my community....better add guns to the mix"
Does that sound like a reasonable position? If people come around to your neighborhood to "Punish the good hoods", do you think you'll improve the situation with a gun?

I own a lot of guns, and I can tell you with 100% certainty that if I was concerned about people rampaging through my neighborhood, I wouldn't be cleaning them, I'd be making sure they were locked up and as secure as they could be, because the aren't going to help the situation in any way. If a mob rolled through my neighborhood and smashed my windows or burned my car, I'm smart enough to know that there's not much I can do about it, because it's not worth shooting anyone over, and I'm smart enough to realize that the best way to make sure my wife is safe, is to not be the guy waving a gun around an angry mob.

You don't have to be a trumkin to have a deluded sense of importance/fantasy about being the hero with a gun, and that's the kind of attitude that is just more gasoline on the fire.
You want to make sure your family is safe? Make sure your guns are properly/safely stored, and don't do anything to escalate what to this point has been a bunch of property damage.

The question then becomes, are the results admissable? Are both reports submitted? Do they negate each other?

A huge amount of people marching down 1st street turned onto 6th Ave east.

I'd estimate 3000 - 4000 easy.

Things I’ve personally seen cops doing within the last two weeks:
Investigating the scene of a homicide in an alleyway.
Controlling traffic at a busy intersection with malfunctioning lights.
Tending to a unfortunate clearly suffering some distress on the side of the road.
Dispersing a crowd of unruly, intoxicated loiterers from out front a business.
Controlling the scene of a shots fired altercation.

If you’re out there protesting today, good on you. Just please keep in mind the amount of good the service does, and consider the ratio of bad/good police.

Change will happen when society creates new pathways to real justice, and puts the power in the hands of those who will uphold the meaning of the word. This does not happen overnight, and it does not happen by breaking windows.

What did you expect when you moved from here to a 3rd world hellhole? Doesn't Westbrook Mall sound nice now?

ever thought in the unlikely event it comes to that maybe you just take the wife and kids out the back door and drive away, is your 65 inch flat screen so important you are prepared to kill someone to keep it?

Maybe it's time for those overwhelming good cops to call out the bad cops more often.

We've seen that the past few days already. Need lots more. The change needs to happen within the police precincts.

yeah, shocker ... everybody who saw the video could see the cause of death. That report by the other examiner was a freaking joke.

Nothing is going to be foolproof but this is a substantial protest with an excellent cause. I don't take many risks at all and I've minimized my risks here... and I'm going to try and avoid immunocompromised ppl for a couple weeks after I leave. I hope others do the same.
Fair enough and I shouldnt have singled you out. Just wanted bring up its easy for a young healthy person to say it's worth the risk, when it's other's that may not be so young or healthy that could be affected by it. And the fact these protests in Canada while have meaning are not the same as having protests in the US.

I do fully acknowledge its outside (lower risk) and its for a good cause.

The service? This is not a protest of the Calgary Police Service.

My experience doesn't give me a ton of confidence, but I do hope the 1500 in Calgary (including those here who have said they went) and many others across the world are already committed to seeing this through, and that they don't feel like they've accomplished anything yet or done their part. Protesting, marching, joining parades, and all that stuff is easy as allies, but the next part is the hard part and that's where a lot of people bail. Make sacrifices, financially support organisations that need help, lobby politicians, do the work. If you're thinking "maybe when I have more money" or "maybe when I have more time" then that's speaking from privilege, and it just doesn't help things that can't wait.

I know I've seen (here, elsewhere) a lot of outrage from some folks when Pride organisers don't welcome cops, or certain political parties, etc to march. This is the reason, because easy "activism" is nothing, saying "I support you" is nice, but it's just nice, and nice doesn't really help, especially when the daily actions don't match.

We need more people who do the work, and fewer people who just talk about how they recognise the importance of the work.
I like a lot of what you're saying here. Can you all please give me some links to organizations to support? I have some money that I would like to commit to this today
