Until police stop treating themselves like an occupying force and are actually arrested for crimes against citizens they are supposed to be protecting, this will be an ongoing issue.

The rioters and looters are wholly insignificant in this discussion. If you're talking about them, you've lost the plot.
Around 90% of adult African Americans have had an unpleasant experience with police that they believed was tied to race. That's over 40 million people. Many many more if you include other ethnicities as well.
That's the issue.
All this other crap critiquing the form of protest, or individuals looting or rioting or whatever - you've lost the plot. This is a massive problem, and attention should be placed on the actual problem. Who cares about certain individuals misbehaving on the fringes?
On the fringes? They are talking about bringing in the National Guard, these riots are far from on the fringes.
They are upfront and center and are drowning out all of the good that the protests are doing. Showing people you care about something is important. But all the media is reporting right now is the rioting and looting.
This will all be lost and washed away if they continue to act like this.. especially if more people keep dying.
This is the mayor asking for the Guard.
The FBI is investigating the case, Trump has asked them to expedite the process. The right wheels are in motion. Hurting innocent people is NOT the right answer. It is not the right response.

I am not sure if this video was posted from security footage leading up to the arrest, but it appears that at no time was the victim resisting arrest or being a threat (in case there was any doubt).

I mean, something could have happened after the video. But still, dude looks calm.

This situation is so unbelievably ####ed up.
Don’t do that. Maybe you don’t realize you’re doing it but don’t make excuses for the murderers. There is nothing that man could have possibly done, filmed or not, to deserve how he was murdered.

Pretty sure I'd trust the National Guard more than the local police here anyway.
I heard that this morning and was wondering if that is relatively a lot of complaints. I can imagine that anyone getting arrested is going to have a complaint against the cop that arrested them so I'm not sure if there is much to be assumed from that number of complaints.

Don't do what? I wasn't saying he could have done anything to deserve it. I just said he looked calm in this video but I don't know what happened after it.
Clearly I wasn't making excuses.

A good time to remind people that are finger pointing at America that the level of racism against Indigenous people in Canada both individual and systemic is willfully ignored and tolerated by huge proportion of our population. We are a very racist country too.
In 2020 there is systemic racism against indigenous people? You will have to cite some sources for that.

There is a video showing what happened after this video. The guy didn’t do anything aside from tripping at one point as the cops walked hi to the cruiser. He was calm and pleading for his Mom while having a knee cut off his airway which resulted in his death.
To be clear, I'm not saying that systemic racism is the only cause underlying that trend. It would seem pretty naive to dismiss it as a contributing factor, though.
