They're just not that common because the restrictions on owning them are a pain in the ass. I'd like to have one but I already have two restricted guns, and don't find handguns interesting enough to deal with the extra BS

I wonder if this is a direct result of gun owners saying well this gun isn’t banned and it’s far more powerful/dangerous/modifyable than X that is banned so the RCMP says Good point, we will add it to the list.

Incredibly unlikely. Any firearm that is up for sale in Canada passes through the RCMP lab for classification first.
The RCMP is acutely aware of what's available and its characteristics.

It's actually a minuscule amount. Most gun crime is committed with illegal guns.
Stopping illegal guns from the USA, youth programs and mental health is where money should go towards instead of a ban.
The ban is theater, to appear like they are doing something about gun crime, it will have no effect on crime whatsoever, it's politics nothing more.

Data is limited.
Police forces state 50% in Western Canada and 30% in Canada are domestically sourced guns. Gun Suicides in general are carried out with legal guns.
Both will be subject to the substitution affect so banning will increase illegal use in homicides and other methods of suicides will be used. Also there is consideration for whether or not a gun in the home increasing risk of suicide is personal choice or public health issue.
You are looking at affecting with a hand gun band somewhere in the 75 Homicides a year range and 300 or so suicides. (Somewhere between 40-50% of suicides by gun are handguns)
The statement that a handgun ban will have no affect is highly likely to be false. I would agree with you if you were talking about the scary weapon ban.

Anything, anything but actual gun control

Doesn't every single gun start out as a legal gun? Or are there gun manufacturers in North America making guns explicitly for the black market?

People buy guns that are legal in the US that aren't legal here and bring them over the border.
You could also import illegal parts from a country where its legal and assemble yourself.

As a round about way of asking; Why would the fact that a gun is legal in another country have any bearing on this discussion?

Oh I get it! You're still just mindlessly trolling.

are you sure these aren't the stats that were debunked?
Criminals are going to stop getting guns from the states because there's a ban? We've been through this. Criminals do not follow laws or bans.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/gun...tics-1.4779702
They don't have evidence to back the "domestically sourced? conclusion.

I understand that some of you don't like guns, but it's scary if you don't have a problem with the way a minority government was able to skip the democratic process and force a law change overnight. And they snuck it in at a time when covid shut everything down. I can't wait till these Liberals are gone.
