Does that really matter at this point? It’s about money, for the players and the owners. Put hockey on TV and and a number of Canadians will watch. Maybe a few people in the US too if their team is involved.

Ugh, of course NASCAR would be the one sport to survive an apocalyptic global pandemic, further proving that it is indeed the cockroach of the sporting world.

Nascar's last desperate attempt to stay relevant. Their brand has been dying for years. I love Nascar...or used to anyways until they started tinkering with points and segments and messing with all star race weekend AND breaking down the Daytona 500 into stupid segments too. They shot themselves in the face and I'm upset about it.

Apparently the new plan is to try and play out of each team's home arena

I can't see that ever getting off the ground.
Not only does playing all games in a central location limit exposure, it also keeps costs lower to make returning in front of empty arenas viable.

Agreed. This may be an olive branch to the players who have expressed concerns about being away from family, or at least part of the league's due diligence.
As noted by a few other reporters, the possibility exists to bring family in down the road and maybe thats the better solution.

I agree with the NHLPA and the players on this. The whole central location thing was basically a way of skirting health regulations in a number of locations. This pushes everything further down the road until it all fits in with the mandated timelines for each locality.

Are they all going to play in their home arenas via hologram...?
Put NHL20 on the jumbo trons and have them play each other online?
Sneak across the border to avoid the travel ban?

Well since there can be no groups larger than 15 in Alberta, this rules out the Flames and Oilers unless the start date is moved til September.

Not to mention that more 20% of the teams in the league play their home games in California and NY/NJ and I can't see those States opening up anytime soon.
Massachusetts, Illinois, and Michigan have all been hit pretty hard too and I don't think they're close to relaxing regulations either.

And not even just the state level, Detroit is getting absolutely hammered by Covid right now.

Well, I'm not sure about the groups of 15 limit actually. It's vague / undefined. For Stage 0, yes, it's still 15 people limit. However, in later stages, where restaurants can operate at 50% capacity, for example, does the 15 people limit still apply? I think that number will be lifted up to a higher point in July.

Lol, people actually think border crossing and group rules are not going to be exempted for sports? That is funny!

It's going to feel more like a Reality Show than the Stanley Cup playoffs, if they somehow return.

Dumb, dumb, dumb. The idea is dumb enough, but letting it leak is even worse.
Public health authorities should have serious concerns about the NHLs competency in managing this.

It seems to be that this is one thing that there is a consensus on in the US, punting sports way down the road. CNN had a poll done. The numbers were around 85-95% for continuing to shut large events down.
