The more I think about, the more I'm convinced that because Rudy Gobert was so dumb/foolish/ignorant and ended up testing positive for Covid-19, a lot of lives might be saved because of the response that it ultimately triggered (leagues suspending seasons, etc). Obviously there are other factors and decision makers involved, but it's events like this that can really get the ball rolling.
That's what I'm hoping for anyways.
Same here
When this is all said and done, I wonder how culpable companies like cruise lines are going to be in the spread of this. How many people knowingly attended an event or travelled due to cancellation fees and the like - all while there was news that this bad virus was going to spread?
Companies were playing chicken with customers on who was going to cancel first, and unfortunately for those companies... all we're going to have time to do over the next little while is brew about it
Leagues in NA may have played chicken a bit too close for some's liking, but we will be out of this a lot sooner for it and our heath-care systems will be slammed considerably less for it I'm sure
UFC sort of uniquely equipped to continue holding events because they only deal with one ownership group and can easily hold events without fans at a single facility that they already own. They will dominate Sportscentre because they are the only game in town at the moment LOL

^ I've wondered if leagues were going to be finishing/adopting seasons to single or limited location tournaments in some way or another
Huge opportunity as you mentioned, as you'll have tons of eyes following any content you can put together for the next while. But I think the quarantine and testing measures necessary for leagues to put on paid performances (all we're talking about here really). Even with UFC, the number of bodies needed to put this thing on might not be permitted
Will be interesting to see how leagues handle this

I was thinking about this too, it would be kinda cool to have the Stanley Cup playoffs at say two rinks, one for the western conference say Saskatoon and another for the east, say Quebec. Then the final can be played at one of these locations.
It'll have a minor hockey tournament like feel but the NHL can have total control over ice times and scheduling and also control over keeping the players safe in hotels.

Honestly, it would be a huge TV/media draw and I'm sure we'll all need something to cheer about going forward.
Some round-robin to get all teams to 72 games as best they can will give us a playoff picture better than math IMO, nevermind entertainment. I'm sure it won't be perfect, but prioritize teams with a playoff position to be decided and we'll have some pretty fun matchups leading to playoffs still
It would mean quarantining a huge area and tons of testing to get all 31 teams together to finish the season... but it could be entertainment well-worth it in the end if they can shake out a playoff tournament as you described. Basically an Olympic village sans fans...
Can't imagine that players and staff of teams that know they're going to be eliminated will be too upset to participate if they get a few weeks of taking in hockey. Talking weeks or months out of course
Something to discuss with the lack of sports news.
Sit and wait.
In our yahoo league one guy picked up Stamkos, Hamilton and Kreider off waivers... might be smart if NHL picks back up and they're health for regular season play.
I dont see the NHL coming back this year so I guess the payouts are based on standings as they sit.

Thanks for bringing it up
Guy I was facing dropped his goalie for a final swing with Jake Allen on Sunday... the last day of the playoff round. Allen got a shut-out and I'm out of the playoffs
Our commissioner froze the rosters but I was able to pick up Stamkos before he did that. lol Its a cash yahoo league and I finished first place in the regular season standings so I hope they do the money placement with 1st,2nd, 3rd from the regular season standings. Sounds like they want to just refund everyone if the season gets officially cancelled which sucks for me as I'm in line for some decent cash and worked hard to have a monster season.

We were in the midst of the last week of the season prior to playoffs beginning with tons of uncertainty in terms of positioning and seeding - although we did know which teams were making the playoffs.
It is a 10 team dynasty league with a $100 buy in each year. If the season is cancelled the plan is to take the $1000 prize pool and go to the casino and put it all on red or black (with the top seed making the final decision) and splitting the winnings with those in playoff contention. That, or we will just carry it over to next season - but that doesn't seem as exciting.
Anyone in a baseball league with a draft coming up? A bunch of us are supposed to meet in SK next weekend (guys are split between AB and MB, so SK is the middle) and I'm ready to wave the white flag and say I'm not going. There is no reason to gather especially with the beginning of the season delayed. Am I crazy? No one else seems to think this is reasonable so far according to the group chat.

Do what you think is best for you. if you don't want to go, then don't.

A simple guideline for almost all scenarios moving forward,
Is it something you WANT
or
Is it something you NEED
If you dont need something, then its likely wise to avoid doing it. Just an easy way to minimize risk, but as with all things its up to you.
Read an article in the Athletic from Le Braun that gives the impression the league is not interested in going straight to playoffs or doing a different format, they want 82 game regular season completed. I get the impression if they can't make up the regular season there will be no playoffs.

Really? I didn't get that impression. I did however get the impression that they have no interest in a shortened season next year.

PLB: Any decision on whether the regular season is now over and when the season resumes it will be the playoffs right away?
BD: No. Form and format of resumption of play scenarios will depend entirely on what transpires between now and then and, ultimately, on timing and logistical constraints.
