I hope so, but I can't help but think that those five points dropped to the Kings will somehow factor in...

However, if they play the rest of the way like they did for most of this trip, they have a real shot at not only getting into the playoff, but being competitive once there.

Before today, Talbot had lost two of his last three, and allowed 12 goals on 66 shots.

7 games left against teams they’re battling to get in and 3 (maybe 4 depending on what happens to the rangers) against teams out of it, the Flames control their own destiny right now.

Yeah Talbot has let in some real stinkers in the last month. He played well today but the Flames were much better defensively too.

Rittich is the #1 and I think that’s appropriate based on their seasons to date and the the fact Rittich is the future and Talbot is not. You need to develop players by trusting them and letting them figure it out. Rittich won’t develop into a starter without being a starter.

I’d expect we’ll continue to see Rittich start 2/3-3/4 of the games and some fans continue to be baffled by it.

Why'd you do his last three and not the fourt--- oh, wait, he got a shutout in that game

I guess it's only appropriate that "Active Stick" thanked this post...

I only did his last three because they were his most recent games, and he had not been especially good since the Anaheim game. I am not interested in pretending that the Flames goaltending has been anything but inconsistent all season. That needs to change. Hopefully today was a start.

But they’re separate because one is regular season and the other playoffs.

This is the first game I've seen since the Flames acquired Forbort and Gustafsson and they both looked very steady. I like Kylington, but that pair is much better than Kylington and Stone.

Talbot clearly is the better goalie right now. The team as a whole has been relatively consistent in their efforts lately, which is refreshing.

But I still think Rittich should start the next game. Flames goalies tend to lay goose eggs after shutouts for some reason. And this effect, though explainable, is too overwhelming to ignore.
