This to me feels a bit like trade deadline bluff.
Similar to how Gio skated in warmup the day before trade deadline last time, only to be shut down for the season two days later.

Ward told us yesterday that this injury was a 6 week recovery for Gio last time, and it's only been two weeks. I just don't see it.

He's only skating, not playing. At best he comes back a week or two early. That's not a huge shock. I imagine the estimates are taken from normal recovery times but Gio is in great shape, so maybe that factors in.

This is exactly what Ward said:

Ward went on to say that "both guys are going to be available down the stretch."

It's a bit cagey; it's misdirection, but by the same token the six week timeframe is definitely not carved in stone. I bet he is back earlier than that.

Strains are funny. It wouldn't surprise me if it was a shorter recovery time. Once you've injured an area, you tend to do extra extra stretching there before/during/after intense exercise. It can still be prone to sprain again, but the recovery can be faster thanks to the extra work put in before.

I'd bet he Gio doesn't play on this road trip.

Tre doesn't want to come across as desperate with the trade deadline approaching so "Gio is close".

I agree. At a critical point in the season, I'd hope he would be on the trip, even if they know he can't play. He's still the captain, his leadership has value beyond the ice . With a very young d, he can probably teach a thing or two to the new guys

For what it's worth, Weber was also said to be shut down for 4-6 weeks with an ankle sprain, and he ended up being back in the line up in 2.

Lanny was on the radio just now (poker tournament) and said something about talking to Gio, and then he said 10 days to 2 weeks. I don’t know if he was guessing or if he blabbed.
Mind you, he also referred to a player named “Manny Pajami “ which threw me for a sec.

I LOLd in my car. I don’t think Lanny was joking either. You can bet if anyone on the team heard, it’s gonna stick.

I would be mildly surprised if he plays on the trip.
He’s going in large part because as captain he will be part of the Flames contingent on deadline day. Iirc he was consulted on some moves the past years...and even though his thoughts or words could be done via phone and text, having the captain there in person, to convince the new guy to waive, and or greet the new guy coming in, and, to be there in person to say farewell to a current roster player, is much more preferable.

Also to filter information from management through to the rest of the team.

A lot of guys without trade protection in that lockerroom wondering if they are next.

A ####load of nerves.

Probably get in one the night before.
