"He was holding my leg, it was reactionary," he told Sportsnet's Mark Spector. "I was just trying to get him off me, kick him off me. I was just trying to get my foot loose.
"If I kicked him hard, I think he would have flew back or the ref would have called a penalty," he continued. "I was trying to get off and pull my leg off. He was holding me and (teammate Josh Archibald) down. I didn't even know where the puck was (and) I was trying to pull my leg up and get up."
////
No wonder he waived his right for an in person hearing. When he speaks in front of someone, he only makes things worse.

They only need the Saddle, didn't you hear he hit 90 points?
He's the first NHL player this year to reach 90 points.
Did you hear he has 90 points?

Like when he was suspended for the Tkachuk incident and immediately told reporters he would do it again.
The guy is a genuine idiot.

I don't believe there is a minimum, only means that he can be suspended for longer

Considering McDavid and Neal are already gone, Tkachuk's month-old commentary on Kassian's hockey IQ has to be re-ringing some pretty loud bells somewhere, no?

What is the difference between a telephone hearing and an in-person hearing?
If the Department of Player Safety determines that any Supplemental Discipline from an infraction will result in five games or less or a fine of more than $5,000, the hearing is conducted by phone.
If the infraction might require a suspension of six games or more, the offending Player is offered the opportunity to an in-person hearing. In this case, the Player remains suspended until the hearing takes place. If the Player waives his right to an in-person hearing, the hearing will be conducted by phone.

So there is no minimum but offering the in-person gives them the option to go 6 or above. I think this warrants double digits. Honestly, I think someone should force him to undergo anger management training or some type of counselling that involves strengthening his self-control.

It totally is his account, no doubt. Same writing style as his twitter account, same arguments. I'd bet anything it's him.
Pathetic that some people can't look past their loyalties and just admit what was done was wrong. Sadly it's an ingrained part of being human. If your family member, your sports team, your political party does something that the rest of humanity deems to be immoral or wrong, you will always have people who refuse to waive loyalty simply because it's ''your side''. I don't know how our brains evolved to that point, but it's one of the worst parts of human nature; blind loyalty with an inability to empathize views from the other side and acknowledge that what happened is wrong.
Some things in life can in fact be divided into black or white with no gray area. This is one of those times. You don't kick a player with your skates regardless if you are out of the play and they are on top of you. You are taught the very first day you lace up skates that's wrong, end of story, black and white as that.
If Staples would just come out and admit what Kassian did was wrong and he should be punished, people might actually respect him regardless of where his loyalties lie. Instead it's pathetic to watch a fellow human just blindly show loyalty to Kassian and refuse to acknowledge what happened was wrong when literally everyone else knows it.

The thing that stands out to me quite a bit is that Kassian started the entire incident
He bearhugged and tackled a defenceman in the middle of play onto his own teammate... then seconds later is kicking the guy in the chest. This wasn't a provoked assault, he just wielded skates as a ho-hum in-game tactic. It's actually eerie that everyone continued on business-as-usual
The guy loses his mind when the game gets heated and it a reckless idiot any other time on the ice. I would be surprised if the NHL doesn't peg him for 10+, and it'll be interesting to see how 'tough guy' Kassian wants to be in the media this time
Either way, McDavid+Kassian+Neal are the reasons the amazing Oilers season fell short. The articles are already written

I watched a slow motion replay and you can clearly see Kassian's right hand holding Cernak's left hand down, he starts initiating the kick just as he lets go of Cernak's hand.

Or maybe just skip right to the root of the problem and require him to undergo a brain transplant.

I hope someone somewhere is thinking about how complicit the media are in this.
They fed a meathead steroids of glorification for rage and violence, and fed him even more for doubling down with ‘I’d do it again’.
Shocker. He did it again and it could have been much much worse.

It's to his benefit to go in person and waiving that probably doesn't help his cause. Maybe he's just resigned to whatever the league deems as appropriate suspension as we aren't talking about a highly intelligent individual here.

Im sure slowing it down can tell more of the story, but really, slow motion replay wasn’t even required here. It’s very egregious.

Can the NHL afford to have McLottery miss the playoffs AGAIN? I would not be surprised if its a small suspension and hand wave it away saying the player wasn't injured.
Kassian isn't some superstar, but they are running out of NHL bodies if he's out 10-20 games.
