My point is do we miss Hamonic? Would a cheaper contract from Stockton be worse?
Yelesin could be worse but who knows? Maybe he's better. A lot of great teams didn't come together until they called guys up and let them play. Even last year's Flames were beneficiaries of the opportuntieis Kylington, Czarnik, Mangiapane, Rittich, Quine, and a few others were being given (and then that got cut down hard after the all star break)
I'm with you in that you shouldn't overplay a guy because of what he was able to do five years ago. Distribute minutes based on actual performance, not experience and your irrational fear of playing other guys.
In a perfect world every player is slotted based on their performance not based on their name recognition. But we don't have the luxury of a coach like Laviolette or Sullivan who operate that way.

In fact do we miss Gio right now ? Maybe its time to let go of over paid vets
Yes we miss Gio. Not against the Sharks or Canucks, but we're going to need him against the real heavy hitters. IMO we miss having Brodie on the right too. But it's absolutely great that the injury to Gio opened up an opportunity for someone - anyone - to play PP1 because Gio was not getting the job done but was getting undeserved minutes much like certain other veteran players in other situations.

####ing Lucic?!? I tuned in to watch one of Jumbo’s and/or Patty’s last game. Watching that ass score makes this extremely in unpleasant.

I think a lot of people here underrate both Hamonic and Stone.
Hamonic is a legit top 4 dman and he’s the type of player all teams could use.
Stone is reliable depth that is now on a cheap contract.
I love Hamonic's fearless warrior attitude, but it has been hard on his body, and I'm not convinced that he's still a top 4 D on a Cup contender. But I do believe that he and Kylington would be among the league's best 3rd pairings.
The Following User Says Thank You to Macindoc For This Useful Post:
We just need to find the right partner for him. It wasn't Brodie and it hasn't been Hanifin.
Because those didn’t work out I’m not sure Kylington will either, even though the “stay at home partner of the freewheeler” sounds good on paper. But it makes the most sense unless you play Hamonic with Gio (and then you have to find a new partner for Brodie).
My point is do we miss Hamonic? Would a cheaper contract from Stockton be worse?
In fact do we miss Gio right now ? Maybe its time to let go of over paid vets
Ps i am not saying Gio is over paid etc before i get bombarded with replies
If you are talking about re-signing Hamonic for next year, and the overall cap structure, fine, that’s a conversation to have. But for the rest of this year it makes zero difference. But to answer you, yes, a cheaper contract would be way worse than Hamonic. Stone isn’t as good, nor is Davidson, Yelisen, etc.

Another thing in my opinion that has happened is that Matthew Tkachuk has grabbed the bull by the horns and dragged this team through without Gio and also lucic has stepped up

But what if Kylington-Stone or Kylington-Davidson are a better third pair?
What makes the most sense is to get the best assets we can for Hamonic at the deadline as we did for Glencross back in 2015.

The D pairings seem to work so far. I hate that Gio and Hamonic are injured but they do look good.
Tons of chances again, Dell was almost chased.
Speaking strictly of this season, outside of a handful of games, I feel like Giordano and Hamonic were playing below average to average hockey (respective to where they've been slotted).
Honestly I have had a gut feeling that we wouldn't see a massive drop off if those guys went down. Rasmus has been ready for as much responsibility as he can handle. And if anything there is more jump with new blood back there.
It doesn't make the captain expendable by any means, but him and Hamonic have been rather uninspiring outside of the odd game. It wasn't hard to replace the "average" game they've brought to the table this season.
Maybe Mark could use the break and rest. It might serve him well, he's been rode pretty hard with high expectations on his shoulders.
On the subject of leadership, I'm firmly of the belief that Tkachuk is the captain this team needs. He may not be the all around professional that Giordano is, but he has the "it" factor and not taking any #### attitude that makes his comrades want to rally and play hard around him.
This team has been starving for that... someone with a pulse to follow.

I am saying hamonic is getting more minutes because of his name and what he done a few years ago. Hamonic today is a 3rd pairing d man who is overpaid and i would prefer if we gave a cheaper option his minutes and put the money elsewhere.
How can you say Yelisen isnt an upgrade without seeing him play?

Hamonic is an experienced legitimate NHL defenceman who has been a top 4 D for most of his career. Yelesin has never played an NHL game and isn't exactly burning up the AHL.

He admits that he replaced Lindholm for the faceoff to "deal with the situation". Asked about the chatter on the ice prior to that, jokes about how there was a "little bit until I stepped on the ice, then it all went quiet".
Eric Francis then again tried to assert that he was only out there with Monahan and Gaudreau by mistake for some reason, despite the fact that Rinaldo clearly replaced Lindholm specifically because of Kane's chirping.
