its a strange argument, given that Monahan, first in games played from that draft class, arrived two years earlier and so yes the entire contract process has been accelerated- but still I don't think your numbers are correct. I see 29.2 M for Monahan, 9.1 for Nurse- obviously still a big discrepancy.

I have no clue what you are trying to get at. Nothing is "holding Kylington back", other than the fact he has played less that a year's worth of games in the league and he's only 22. And if you can't see that Andersson and Hanifin are good Dmen who are miles better than Nurse (and cheaper too now), I can't help you at all. Andersson and Nurse have identical point shares and Andersson is way ahead in Corsi. Same with Hanifin.

Monahan is not even a #1 c on the Flames. (Lindholm is) Based on their play this year he would be hard pressed to replace RNH as #2 C on the Oilers.
To call Nurse a #4 d-man is trolling. He is -2 with playing 22:24 a game and has 24 pts. This is on a team that the Flames are chasing for a bubble playoff spot.
He is also #30 in the league with 126 hits. The Flames have exactly zero D-men that are as uncomfortable to play against as Nurse.

Put the crack pipe down. There isn’t a player in the league worried about playing against Nurse. He plays a lot of minutes on a team with exactly zero top pair defenders. He’s an average number 4 on his best day.
It is moronic to suggest any team outside Edmonton would trade Monahan for Nurse.

At best a number 4. Calgary isn't a very successful team this year, but he'd be hard pressed to be a 4 here (absent all the injuries). He'd probably be a 5.

Ok first of all, Nurse being a number 5 on Calgary means there would be 4 defensemen as good as or better than him, not 5. If there were 5 as good as or better than him, he'd be the 6.
Second... yes. And that shouldn't be hard to fathom when Nurse is a second-pairing guy on his own team that is notorious for being poor defensively.

Regehr registered more and more hits every season as he got older and worse.
Besides, Regehr's hits were a classic case of quality > quantity. To paraphrase a Kent Wilson quote, "hitting is like killing rats. Doing it is preferable to not, but doing it all the time suggests you have bigger problems."

McAvoy and Werenski were also signing deals straight out of their ELCs. Nurse's first bridge contract was $3.2 x 2.
Cody Ceci got $4.3 million after 17/18. Trouba also got $5.5 million from arbitration in that offseason.
Stat lines from that season:
Ceci 82 games 5 goals, 14 assists, 19 points. -27
Trouba 55 3-21 24 points. +9
That was two years ago as well, and we have seen a big jump in contract size in the last couple of seasons.

Gio, Brodie, Andersson, Hanifin = better. That makes Nurse a fifth D here. I'd argue Hamonic, when used right, is a way better defensive defenceman, too.
You are trying to compare that with the Oiler statement that they had 5 Gios. Call me when Nurse wins the Norris.

Yup - Reg's famous hits were against guys carrying the puck into the zone. That's not Nurse.
When Reg was younger, his feet were better and he was good at moving the puck.
ETA: It's no coincidence his biggest hitting numbers were in LA at the end of his career.

This is a strange term from the perspective of the Oilers. Nurse will enter UFA status the same year that Broberg, and Bouchard come off their ELC.
