Also, fun fact, whenever you hear reports from Davenport or Bettendorf Iowa, those are 2 of the 4 Quad Cities of the triumphant QC Flames era! The baby Flames played on the Illinois side (Moline - also where we lived) but the Iowa side of the QC is one of the larger population centers in Iowa, so its a regular campaign stop. Clinton and Muscatine are smaller but also nearby stops for campaigns. My wife is from central Iowa and I am from just south of the Quad Cities, so we know the area well!

Some preliminary Sanders volunteer results, 40% reporting.

Quote:

1. Bernie 29.66
2. Pete 24.59
3. Liz 21.24
4. Joe 12.37
5. Amy 11.00

And turnout was low. On par or less than 2016.

I don't think any of the purity arguments that have been going around on Twitter hold up when you're dealing with a legit insane criminal brainworm guy in the white house, unfortunately.

It ####ing sucks, but if you're able to even consider not voting for the Dem because of primary corruption etc, you're already extremely privileged.

It's not about you in that case, it's about everyone else that gets ####ed by Trump.

If I was in a marginalized group, I'd be terrified every ####ing day.

Dems couldn't organize a piss up at a brewery. Trump will play this up for a long time, "they want the government to run healthcare but they can't organize a primary caucus".

Biden's campaign lives on even though by all accounts he's below 15% last night. He should be DOA going into New Hampshire.

Turnout sounds similar to 2016, which isn't a good sign considering they need an energized base to defeat Trump.

Buttigeig already declared victory in Iowa, so he's using the uncertainty to his advantage. Plus he's as establishment Democrat as it gets, I would not be surprised at all to learn that there's some backroom handshakes between his campaign and the DNC to discredit Sanders in any way possible

They were expecting 300,000 but got less than 200,000.

And the app still didn't work. That's fishy.

I'm not seeing how number of voters would impact the load on the app. There are a fixed number of precinct leaders sending their results in.

It doesn't seem to be a load issue anyway, just a bad app that contained flawed logic. I guess that's what you get for $60,000 and not much testing.

Tieing Buttigieg because of his financial ties seems pretty laughable. He spent $45,000 to use the app for campaign texting. If $45,000 can buy you an election, we are in more trouble than anyone realizes. You have to do some pretty crazy mental gymnastics to come up with a scenario that Pete orchestrated this for his benefit.

Is this thread going to be 9 months of Bernie supporters conspiracy theories about how he is getting screwed by the establishment and the elite?

It's not just that he funded the app, it's also that the guy behind said app is a major Buttigieg backer whose wife is a high ranking campaign adviser. I don't actually think there's anything to the conspiracy theories, but it's not surprising that some of this flak is coming his way.

Honestly, the inside baseball aspect of the whole thing should be far more damaging to Pete's image. One of the biggest knocks against him is that he's effectively a political golem built by a handful of rich people you've never heard of (who may or may not spend a disproportionate amount of time in wine caves) and he'll serve those people's interests firsts.

Anyway, they say the results are coming at 4pm.

The way that the nomination process always plays out for the Democrats reminds me of the Kenny campaign for leadership in Alberta. It's so slimy and disgusting, that you're left sure that the winner is going to be someone that you wouldn't want to support, but you have no choice.

This federal election is going to be another case of '350 million people and we end up having to choose between these two?'.

Once Putin's changes go through, Russia might be more democratic than America. WTF.

You mean the changes designed to give him power for life? How exactly is that democratic?

Now the DNC is getting torched for releasing just enough of the poll (62%) to make it look like Pete won.

Looking at the Democrats and their candidates and the Republicans' and their president and I'm hacking either an alien invasion or a military take over.

I worry for the acrimony in this primary between candidate supporters. They're competitors not opponents - you're ultimately on the same side, people. The two party system necessitates a big tent to unify behind a candidate - and it just seems like the Dems are destined to enter the circular firing squad as Obama warned. You're facing Donald fricken Trump, people. The stakes could not be higher.
