Yeah I'll be honest, as much as I crap on Bennett on this forum, I keep seeing offensive glimmers from him, not as a finisher, but as a passer. Kinda like to see more Bennett and Monahan, honestly. If what we are seeing is that he's rounding into a bash-n-crash winger with some passing vision, let's support him with players who can handle that, not just 3rd line "reliable" guys.
Agree with this completely.
One thing I noticed also lately when he gets the chance to play with "better" linemates is that he does not try and do everything himself.
He seemed very relaxed with the puck against the Oilers. Was not forcing anything or trying to over do it.
When he plays simple he is a very effective bottom sixer, he just needs to continue as such.
Crash and bang, shoot when you can and always look for the open man.

Your best friend is also skipping the Flames game for their birthday?🤨
Yep. Totally hockey-indifferent... with no cable TV...

Hopefully, the Flames and Backlund decide its time to part ways and he is willing to move his NTC.
He really didn't take much of a hometown discount and he probably isn't too happy being taken off the second line and now being demoted to the fourth line.
With Ryan around, I really don't think Backlund or his cap hit is needed.
Ryan only has one more year on his deal after this season. No guarantee he will be around in 2 seasons. Backlund hasn't been his best this season but he has been a consistent 45+ point player while being one of the better defensive players on the team. His contract is fine.

Hopefully McDavid forces Gio to fight him for "trying to end his career" and then Oilers fans can REALLY start crying after Gio really takes him out of the game due to a broken face
what will oiler fans be complaining about after tonight.... stay tuned
I can see more complaining about the kneeing.
Because they like to live in the past, even though that happened the game before, they will still complain about it at the start of next season.
Flames win tonight and by a few goals, I feel the third period turns ugly.

I'm set, thanks. I've got enough hockey in my life already.

I would have left Rinaldo in for tonight and taken him out for next game. Rinaldo is fast and is surprisingly effective on the forecheck, plus we don't know how physical this game is going to end up tonight.
The only change I would have made is replacing Rieder with Jankowski. Why? Aside from Jankowski starting to get confidence, attacking the net more frequently, and actually finally finishing some chances, he is a very good PK'er and overall decent defensively, including on draws. Oilers played a 'completely clean game' aside from the unintentional puck over glass from Smith. I somehow expect them to once again play a completely clean game in the eyes of the refs, and Calgary needs to kill penalties. Rieder is a good penalty killer, but Janowski is a bit better I think, and also has the ability to win draws.
After that, I don't really care how they rotate players in an out, but I do think that players should be rewarded for good play. I disagreed with Peters (I think it was still him, can't remember exactly) taking Rinaldo out of the line-up after he started scoring a bit. I disagree with Ward having Jankowski out of the line-up after he finally got going as well. Just when you gain a bit of confidence...
I get that Rieder is an ex-Edmonton player, but he has played 3 games already against Edmonton.
Either way, however, I think the Flames blow-out the Oilers. 10-0. Maybe 15-0. Things will get ugly, but fun.

Ryan is also 33.
