Why is there never any talk of McDavid's transgressions? The guy laid a wicked crosscheck to the back of Tkachuk before Kassian lost his mind. He two-hands a Flames player directly after the Gio incident. McDavid has anger issues. Mark my words, he's going to hurt someone with his reckless and dangerous actions one of these days.

I think Brendan Morrison on the Scott Rintoul show yesterday said something to the effect that the league needs to stop turning a blind eye to top players like McDavid when they take liberties on other players.

I was kind of disappointed by Tkachuk tbh. When Kassian declined the fight Chucky should have horse collared him and started throwing punches at him from behind. That’s what Oiler Nation tells me the the code says, right?

I thought that was awesome. You could tell Tkachak wanted to do it, wether is was to show his teammates, or didn’t like being called a turtle or just sick of all the media or whatever his reason was. Probably a little nervous and fired up for it as any human would be. Wants to go out and get it out of the way, so he can get back to playing his game. By not engaging him right away, it’s still on his mind. And he’s still thinking about it. Control thing. You fight when I’m ready.

But in a tie game going into the 3rd with a penalty called against Edmonton, Tkachuk is a turtle because he took the game situation into account. That makes sense.
Kassian through his hoopla, bit off more than he could chew with all his revenge rhetoric. With the "code" he now has to fight for attacking a star player. Rinaldo called dibs. Chances are Kassian wouldn't be stupid enough to fight Lucic.

He knows what he did!
Seriously though, hes going to take some flak for that and rightly so. He seems like a smart guy, he knows and he'll improve.
Hanifin is a good player but even good players make bad mistakes.

In the two games Turtles team is 2-0 , he has a point and is +3 and was on the ice for the gwg on the pp in game 1 and a big assist in game 2
4-D chess master has 2 losses, 19 m in PIM was in the sin bin for a gwg against
I for one hope his mental mastery over Tkachuk continues for a while

...And then the Flames scored while Tkachuk was on the ice. Must have really distracted him from his game. Game within a game indeed.

Yeah, for me the comment that I got a kick out of was that putting a bad player with McDavid and him getting points is supposed to be a “pump and dump”, not a “pump and sign to a long term costly deal“

Yeah, Tkachuk looked totally cowed, and intimidated as he went hard to the front of the net, and had a big factor in that opening goal, and probably skated slowly by the Oilers bench with a poop eating grin on his face.
Yeah, and that Kassian glare, ohhh, Tkachuk didn't seem the least bit intimidated or frightened by it, he out strategized Kassian on the fight front, got in close, took a couple of punches and it was over and then did an great setup on Andrew's goal.
What was even better was that after the fight, Kassian basically completely vanished probably because of the game within a game that a guy who actually fights at a NHL level said, I'm next.
This was a very good game by Tkachuk from start to finish, he didn't look overly concerned by Kassian's WWE style rants leading up to it, nor did he look all that frightened when he lined up and they agreed to fight.

I tend to think of Tkachuk “agreeing to fight Kassian” as Tkachuk totally playing Kassian again.
The whole lead up into the game was about Tkachuk being a turtle. Tkachuk doing the fight spoiled that narrative, and the Oilers had built their game plan around that narrative. They didn’t have anything to motivate them any more.

At the end of the day, in three games against the Oilers the Flames have 6 points this year. The Oilers I think have 1.
In the last 10 games against the Oilers the Flames are 8 wins 1 loss and 1 shootout loss.
The Flames have outscore the Oilers 29 to 20 in regulation.
Whatever the Oilers are doing, on every level, its not working. The Flames as a team are in the Oilers heads, Tkachuk was in Kassian's head to the point where after the fight, Kassian was worthless. and Kassian's game within a game BS clearly didn't work because it didn't take Tkachuk off of his game.
