Gio's 'trip' was a dangerous play. That said, no one got hurt, so any butt hurt comments live entirely in the 'what if' realm. What if McDavid was hurt? well he wasn't, so what's the big deal?

Mony's interview on the Flames website was funny. He was asked about looking forward to Saturday and he thought they had a game in between.

The issue for Giordano, and the reason people are going to the pitchfork emporium, is that this isn't the first time Giordano has done something like this. In fact at least once a season he seems to get caught leading with a knee or hanging a leg out.
I'd need to see another angle to decide on if I'm going to the emporium my self, but I am not shocked other people are quick to the jump on this one.

No denying there is a history there. That said, sometimes, like it was the case with Aho - Gio lines a guy up, and the player tries to jump out of the way leaving only their knee hanging. It's the same thing as the Tkachuk hit on Kassian. Sometimes culpability can be shared. There is a a balance there, and it should be judged on a play by play basis.
I think that in a few of those 'kneeordano' situations players are trying to move out of the way, and leave only their leg in the contact zone.
Granted there was at-least one that was blatant. However, often, people see that a player gets hurt, and refuse to account for the fact that players often put themselves in a compromised position trying to avoid what would otherwise be a flush hit.

Lifetime Suspension

Re: Gio. The guy's a competitor and hates to see guys go around him. He makes a dumb move sometimes, and that's what penalties (or suspensions if necessary) are for. The idea he's out end guys careers is ridiculous.
McHobo is fast and this is a contact sport. He needs to show some self preservation at the speeds he's capable of. The faster the car the harder the crash.

The only one that I can think of where it was the player moving at the last second was Aho. Every other recent one, Koivu, Fowler, Ryan, were Giordano getting beat and hanging a leg. The Koivu one was real bad as he trapped Koivu into the wall and hung his leg.

When a guy keeps doing it, eventually people start to ask.

Mangiapane vs Archibald seems most likely for a featherweight tilt. They said on the broadcast last night that Archibald had over 100 hits this season (and caught Monahan pretty solid), so sooner or later he has to answer the bell according to Oiler logic.

You could see McDavid try the no look headfake a few times in the game but didn't go for it because the Flames D was keeping a good defensive posture. Meanwhile Hanafin's poor defense made Benning of all people look like McDavid.
He needs to be sat, he almost singlehandedly cost us the game.

You want to see Stone try and defend McDavid? That would be painful. I imagine the coaching staff is going to discuss how to prevent this moving forward.

I just hate Kevin Quinns spastic excitement, It sounds like he is hitting puberty and having his first orgasm at the same time whenever an oiler is within a 25 foot radius of the opposition net.

I dont know why everyone is piling on Larsson. Everyone here wanted him to score a goal and he finally got one.

By a mile, the best post in the ATL report. I mean, this is far beyond just funny.

The Fowler example speaks more to my point, it was a would be flush hit, that Fowler tried to escape leaving himself vulnerable. ( starts at about -50)

Yes the Koivu example was the one I remember being specifically horrible.
I don't think that Gio is trying to hurt people, in my experience, that specific example of kneeing is a reaction. It is a bad habit. Of course, intent does not make up for outcome, and the outcome often is awful. I wish Gio didn't stick his leg out in that situation.
Edit: watched the Ryan one. that one is also outrageously bad, that said, its 9 years old.

Well that was a very fun game to watch. I wish the Flames played with that sort of effort every night.
Thought Draisaitl's giveaway on the PP to give the breakaway to Ryan was egregious and was glossed over pretty quickly by the shills doing the game commentary. 1st star though!
Rittich was excellent, kept us in it all game. Also thought Brodie played a great game as well, I wanted that breakaway goal in OT so badly.
I think Monahan and Gaudreau are just having one of those years where nothing goes in for them. Both of them are tracking to have career worst shooting percentages. I don't know if there is an explanation other than bad luck and some missing confidence. They get some grade A opportunities pretty consistently but like I said its just not going in for them. Maybe the percentages will start to turn in their favor and they will regress to their career norms. I honestly don't think its due to a lack of effort.

Rittich was great, hated Hannafin on the tying goal. Mangiapane with great patience.
Coming from a guy who got his knee taken out intentionally at age 16, Gio has to knock that #### off. He did it to Koivu, too. Stop it.

I can't say if he is going out to try and end careers, but he is definitely trying to do something

I disagree that he leads with his knee, no player wants their primary point of contact to be their knee, because that play is dangerous for both players.
All the same, your point is well taken. Gio has a proven track record with that type of play, whether his intent is there or not. No denying that.
Bringing conversation back to last nights example, I think that it pales in comparison to any of the four examples we talked about. 1) no one was hurt 2) it was an entirely different point of contact on both players. If it were between any two other players, no one would be talking about it. But because of the narrative surrounding it, it has legs.
