I'm curious about peoples lines on something like Manning's racial slur (many automatically call for his termination) vs straight up assault and battery via Kassian (2 games and many seem to think this is perfectly normal behavior).
Personally I'm fine with seeing neither touch NHL ice ever again. I just don't see how anyone can deem Kassian's actions acceptable human conduct.

Chucky better not fight next game. If an Oiler wants to be an idiot and go after him and start throwing punches like Kassian did I hope he does the same thing as last game. If Oiler fans call him a turtle, who the hell cares? If Chucky did something really cheap and did not answer the bell then I would have a problem with him. But not for clean hits.
The guy is one of the Flames' best players, a friggin all star, and he's supposed to fight..........just because? How idiotic.

Ok guys I have to ask:
I'm considering wearing my Tkachuk jersey with a turtle hat to the game in Edmonton on Wednesday
On the one hand I think it's kind of funny
On the other hand I'm worried I might get punched in the face
Please advise

I’ll be at the game.
I’ll probably punch you.
Jk I’d laugh and say hi. I don’t think you’ll be punched. Probably some ribbing coming your way though.

Wait.
Kes and Juice?
Why is Kevin Bieksa called Juice? I watched that guys entire pathetic career and I've never heard that before.
Truth is it's so lame it actually suits him. Skills like Huselius?
Who would actually want to listen to Ryan Kesler and Bieksa other than Canucks fans. Oiler fans?

I wore mine to the game on the 27th and people mostly just stared at their shoes with an air of dejection. Great times, would recommend.

John Mandarich, the Edmonton Eskimo and brother of Tony from the NFL was nicknamed Juice. Because of well publicized reasons. Or maybe it’s an OJ Simpson thing.

It's funny how early this season the whole hockey world had its "awakening" to hockey culture and bullying, yet it's all forgotten in an instant with this whole soap opera.
Hockey culture at its worst is not in the form of the coach - player relationship, it's at the player to player level. The things that happen on the ice between teams, and even off the ice in the dressing room between players on the same team.
What you are seeing from the Oilers organization, Oilers media, from Kassian, from Kassian's friends (Kesler and Bieksa) is straight up hockey culture bullying.
What Tkachuk did was the equivalent of the nerd in school who actively excels and answers the teachers questions correctly in class at the expense and embarassment of the bully Kassian and in his anger, Kassian tries to start a fight with Tkachuk and rag dolls him when he won't fight him. Then afterwards, Kassian tells all his friends to "get the word out" that Tkachuk is a ##### and won't fight him.
Only in the hockey world, is this kind of bullying acceptable and OPENLY ENDORSED by everyone.
It's all pretty sickening and hypocritical in light of all the discussion earlier in the year that a situation like this can be front page and headlining, just months after everyone in the hockey world supposedly had a reckoning.
Guys like Kassian, Bieksa and Kesler are straight up bullys. You can see it in how they act on the ice. They go around looking for fights and fighting people that they know they can beat. Who can forget Bieksa refusing to fight Westgarth and running to take on the easier Smid, and leaving the call up to fight Westgarth.
Real tough guys don't go out looking for fights. Real tough guys fight when they have to, when they are disrespected or when their friends are disrespected. Real tough guys are like Iginla who fought when he had to. He didn't go around trying to prove that he was the toughest guy. When he fought, it was for a good reason, for the team. Iginla also fought everyone.
He fought guys like Engelland and Souray and Clowe, guys who Bieksa would never go near. Real tough guys are guys like Ferland who despite being one of the toughest guys in the league, didn't fight unless it was in defense of himself or a teammate. In fact, Flames fans would get upset because Ferland wouldn't be more assertive.
These 3 clowns do it just for wanting to look tough. It's classic bully mentality.
If Tkachuk gets seriously injured because of this clown, it's gonna be on the hockey world, not on Tkachuk. The whole animosity wasn't even born out of Tkachuk, the first instance really came from Draisatl slew footing Tkachuk, which led to Tkachuk going after Draisatl in a scrum. Next thing you know, Kassian is going after Tkachuk and just attacking him off a faceoff. Then a year later, Tkachuk catches Kassian with a couple of hits that are within the rules of the game, and Kassian attacks him again.
It's really mind blowing how blind the hockey world is to what's going on. Only in hockey, can a guy get assaulted twice, and yet be the one to be blamed.

If Kesler or Burrows was the transgressor everyone would be against them too. Tkachuk is the same type of player.
I understand Flames fans taking his side. Tkachuk is your guy.
I understand you seeing his actions in a somewhat different light than the rest of the league, but it still surprises me a little when I see someone genuinely confused that the majority of neutral observers are siding against Tkachuk.

Yeah apparently one is not allowed to hit a heavyweight meathead fighter unless you fight him! my thinking is an eye for an eye, Kassian should just learn to hit him back instead of going all caveman.
Message to Lucic, smoke McDavid or Draisaitl and say "OK" you got me I'll fight if I have too

Is this still a thing? Jesus. I guess in Edmonton it is.
Sooo your only case is you don't like him so everyone should have free reign to assault him? Also, what is this answering the bell BS? There was no attempt to "fight" by Kassian. Tkachuk was horse collared and started being beaten on from behind.

I hate to burst your bubble on the Iginla stance.
He had some degree of honour, not fighting out of his weight class. But he was also an instigator.
Listen to Connie’s stories. Iggy would be on the bench and decide he was going to fight someone. Just because.

This is the stuff that's a reach to me.
The NHL in a detailed ruling called it a clean hit. Guys like Bob McKenzie and Chris Johnson, and Ken Campbell have come out calling it clean.
Two ex Canucks that played the game the same way aren't much of a source. Either are a bunch of ex players with ties to Edmonton.
This is a gray area thing, but this need to say "the rest of the world agrees with me" stuff has to stop. It's silly. Edmonton media have been combing the hockey world looking for quotes. Maybe, just maybe if Calgary media was equally obsessed with the issue they'd be asking questions and only publishing the quotes that match their narrative.
I see both sides of this ... but the everyone agrees with us when a player got horse collared from behind on hits that the league deemed as clean is insane.

Iggy's PO fights almost always had a "get the team going" purpose. Specifically, fighting Ohlund, Hatcher and Lecavalier in 04. TBF, he picked guys above his weight class (though Ohlund and Lecavalier weren't tough guys).

The stupid thing is didn't Kassian have 13 free, undefended shots to "make Tkachuk pay"?
Doesn't the old code even say that should do it?
Why should he have to fight again? Because Kassian was so spazzy he didn't get in an actual good shot? This is so stupid no matter what a person thinks of the hit, "debt" has already been paid.

For the most part, I would hardly call these people neutral observers. And Edmonton fans clearly want to ignore the league ruling and others as Bingo has pointed out.
The only word that really matters in this case is the NHL anyways. And what was their ruling. Clean Hits, Kassian jumped Tkachuk like the coward he is from behind. Tkachuk was defenseless and vulnerable. Kassian was penalized and suspended.
I don't give a good goddamn what two idiots say on a Podcast, or what former players that are out of touch with the game that ignore the above.
