Awful, especially considering that this team is about to go on a longer then week break and couldn't muster a good effort in 2 of the 3 games.

As much as we want to blame the coaches, this is on the core leadership on the team, they're the ones that have to be demanding and urging greater efforts.

The biggest shock that they could do is strip Gio of the captaincy, and I'm not sure that I'm there, but I've coached and played enough sports to know that its the veteran core group that drives the team.

After the high of the Edmonton win, this is definitely a low.

And no the calls to trade Johnny are silly, first of all, we're not going to get great value from him with his struggles this year. Second of all, its not time to rebuild.

This team needs leadership from somewhere, and this is professional hockey there should be some kind of self motivation happening from the players, but its not.

This team should be far better then it is.

Disagree all you want but he has a valid point. The PGT after a loss can get pretty depressing to read where many go off the deep end.

We need a coach who respects his players but demands them to show up to play every game and have a strong work ethic while also having great 5v5 systems that will allow them to stay in games even when they're not at their best.

Today's game was the hockey Gods laughing at us for stealing so many underserved points over the last couple months that we got what we deserved despite dominating play.

Final tallies over this 3 game Eastern-Canadian road trip:

Goals For: 3
Goals Against: 8

Reminder: these 3 games were against teams that had a combined 2 wins in 22 games before playing us and had given up an average of 4.05 goals against per game.

Since moving on from Bill Peters after the unearthed incidents of both physical altercations with players and race-driven verbal abuse, it seems like the Flames have caught their breath a little bit and are playing significantly better. At the time Peters was fired, the Flames had among the worst numbers of any team in the league at even strength. But since Geoff Ward took over they’ve controlled 56.5 per cent of the inner-slot shots and 55.6 per cent of slot passes, massive improvements that have brought the season-long totals into the positives.

The Flames are still highly exploitable off the rush defensively, an area that the Colorado Avalanche exposed last season and bled them dry in a series shorter than anyone predicted, but they’re still winning the shot-quality and quantity battles more often than not under new coaching, looking similar to the dominant even-strength team that they were last season.
Seems like we are a decent team in the fancy stats category.

The team has been bad for a year, people who still act like this is nothing to worry about are the delusional ones. Another bad loss and you can expect what a PGT will be, stay out if it overwhelms you.

Calgary kicked Ottawa’s ass today in fancy stats. All over the place

Didn’t do it with much urgency or sharpness though

I’m sure it would be nice to get either one of them as I just don’t know if Ward is the answer. However two questions remain for that, would the owners want to pay the salary for Gallant/Laviolette. More importantly would either coach even want to come to Calgary to coach. We’d probably have to overpay even if they would, which leads back to the owners.

The way this core plays for its coaches, no sense signing any coach to more than a one year contract. That may limit the interested candidates though.

You're not talking about making decisions now, you're talking about doing nothing to the roster, hiring yet another coach and then making decisions if nothing changes. Rinse and repeat.

If they come back from the break without Laviolette or Gallant as the new coach I'm going to be extremely disappointed. As crappy as they've been this season they are still in a position to win the division and go into the playoffs hot with a strong final 30 games.

This team has a decent record under Ward but thats more miraculous than anything.

Get a proven coach and add a top 6 right shooting forward (or two) and let's see if they can turn this #### show around. Its not too late.

It was a post more for the folks who want to get rid of the 15-7-1 coach after each of the 7 losses (and some of the wins). It appears that we are a much better team in terms of win loss record and fancy stats under Ward.

Where did I say that?

Not sure what point you're trying to make - it's possible to need changes with the roster and the coach at the same time.

You said hire a new coach and then make decisions if the players dont respond.

That's what you said...

The coach they have now has the best record in their division despite lackluster play from the top players. What more can you ask from a coach?
