Have no idea how people can be impressed with monahans apparently new focus on playing better defensively when he has the worst plus minus on the team and hasn't been matched up with the other teams top lines on a nightly basis.

- Flames fail to get it done for the second time on this trip against beatable opponents
- Lots of shots and zone time, but not enough by way of blue chip chances
- Gaudreau and Monahan have miserable nights
- Rittich doesn't get a lot of work, but would want a few back

People ask why Crosby is the best player in the league, when McDavid outscores him.
The answer is that, every off-season Crosby identifies a weakness in his game and spends months working, making that weakness a strength.
Monahan is one of the few established players on the team willing to build his skillset. Having a better handle on the defensive side will help immensely in a playoff run, and a lot of respect is given to Monahan for stepping forward so that the Colorado debacle doesn't happen again, if he can help it.

Remember when the Flames got absolutely hammered in the playoffs last year and scored more than 2 goals in just 1 of 5 games, and then they made zero major changes to that group and that same group can't score this year at all and the year before last they couldn't score, and they've needed better top 6 right wingers for 3 seasons now but haven't gotten any?
I remember this vaguely.
True. But not for lack of trying to upgrade as I've heard. Also did pretty good during the season with a terrible goalie who single handedly cost them a few wins. Not disagreeing, just sayin, I dunno how much you want to blow up that core, that's still fairly young.
Just an FYI, but you coming on to CP pretty much solely for the purpose of these pithy "Oh, here comes the outrage!!" posts is just as annoying and far more useless than the actual outrage.

nah, i'm saying the gm built a leaky boat and the 'he tried' excuse is so brazenly bad that I'm surprised it's still being used.
In his conversation with Lebrun he just casually mentions they have a lot of left handed shots, like being the gm for 6 years doesn't make him solely responsible for that.
Right handed shots: lindholm, ryan, hamonic, rasmus

Except that Crosby improved on his weaknesses while maintaining and even improving on his strengths at the same time while.Monahans offense has fallen off a cliff for the sake of apparently playing better defensively despite not playing against the other teams top lines on a regular basis and having the worst plus minus on the entire team.
Just watching the games, the Monahan line is consistently the lone that most often gets hemmed in their own zone and has the most trouble maintaining possession in the other teams end.

I don't care that they generated a lot of shots. The effort was pathetic. And it was so predictable: afternoon game before the break - knew going in that they would just go through the motions. And that's exactly what they did.
Again.
It's getting increasingly difficult to GAF about this group. I mean, they don't, so why should I?

Ward has been ok I guess, but this group has been underachieving pretty much across the board outside of goaltending. Sure like the style of play and results of Laviolette and Gallant teams, Treliving needs to get one of them.
