I think what you're suggesting is accurate.

And yet it is all Backlunds fault, despite the fact he is supposed to be playing with 2 of our best players, who are not to blame at all apparently.

The frustrating thing about that line is that if Backlund and Monahan switched positions they'd probably both be more effective. Monahan could help along the side walls defensively with his size while Backlund uses his shiftyness and ability to skate miles down the middle. As-is, Backlund is just lost.

Edmonton's broadcast is still obsessed with Tkachuk/Kassian.

Brought in Jason Chimera to whine about it during the intermission.

I strongly disagree. I think Johnny and Sean are a lot better if they had someone competent to play with.

I think Johnny is dragging down the line more than anything
At minimum he is supposed to be a good enough offensive player to drive a line

Gaudreau looks like absolute horse#### and has all year, there is no escaping it.

it's not just the line he's bringing down, it's the whole team.

it's the most consistent part of this entire season: JG sucks.

Play drivers?

Line drivers?

That’s why they get the big money.

Regardless of the outcome today I can't help but think this team will look just a bit different coming out of the All Star break.

They'll be obsessed with it for at least the remainder of the season, and probably into next season as well.

And further to Backlund, in his 8 assists since the move to the top line, only two of those assists are to SM or JG.

JG and SM have a combined 16 goals in that time. (8 each)
So since early Dec, Backlund has 3 goals, none assisted by SM or JG, and assisted only 2 of JG or SM’s 16 goals.

It’s just not working.

I could be mistaken but the best chance for Monahan line was a sweet pass to the slot from Backlund to Monny which he shot.

I don't recall Johnny doing much at all that period.

But what if we force it for another 30 games?

Comes down to laziness, or some other issue relating to lack of focus.
