SO many awesome quotes from this! Thanks, Gaskal!
Here are two of my faves:
First, a cOiler fan proves him/herself ultra-dense: maybe wish you had a nickel for every time ANY cOiler media personality fantasizes over McAvi...you'd be FAR richer...(but yeah--math is hard...) :
Quote:
My God if I had a nickel for every time the Flames announcers mentioned the ASG for Rittich.
Second, well...even Leaves fans get it...

Edmonton fans, we get it, you have an Albertan inferiority complex because Calgary is a better city in every way. #### off already, stick to your own GDTs.

Right now, the Flames are relying on their goalies to steal them victories. They legitimately outplayed Minnesota (in Minny), Chicago and Edmonton to start 2020 but overall they're being saved by incredible goaltending.
They're a mess 5v5 but have the 2nd best 5v5 save percentage in the league (.941) and 3rd best save percentage overall (.920) since Ward took over.
Just for comparison, the league average save percentage is .908
It's great to get as amazing goaltending as we have, but it masks a lot of the Flames' big deficiencies.

For some reason you think that is all on the coach though...Flames are a top six forward short...maybe two
Changing coaches mid season AGAIN just isn't gonna happen this year, organization wants stability, move on

They didn't change coaches though. One resigned due to unforeseen circumstances and one had to play interim as a result. They haven't brought in their head coach replacement yet. It's not ridiculous to discuss.
Ward wasn't planned to be head coach here. Does that plan change if things continue to go positively for the team? Sure, but I would still be expecting them to get a guy for their plan beyond this season at some point.

The media's coverage of the Tkachuk thing has been so ridiculously over the top. Trying to paint him as the villain, while portraying Kassian as the poor victim. It's beyond pathetic, especially dips**ts like Specter. And all he did was lay the guy out with 3 perfectly legal body checks. I have no doubt that Tkachuk is laughing his arse off at all this nonsense.

Rittich is amazing. I remember a few posters - as well as some media pundits - stating so matter of factly that Talbot is the Flames' bona fide starter, not Rittich. Patience is virtue sometimes. You have to find out if a short stretch of relatively poor play is the new norm, or if it is just a blip. Rittich has done enough in my opinion to have earned some patience, trust and a bit of rope. He IS the Flames' starter.
This is not to say that Talbot is lousy. On the contrary, Talbot - at least in my eyes - has looked like a legitimately good starter. Flames showed a tonne of patience with Talbot, and I think he has really rebounded from last season. I bet he is going to get even better in the coming weeks and months.
Funny how time completely throws you off. At the start of the year, the biggest question mark when it came to this team was goaltending. A starter that has never been a starter, and a backup fresh off the reclamation heap. Some posters were very critical of Treliving for not spending assets on finding a good starter in the off-season. Again, patience is virtue.
Flames have an unbelievable combo right now. And no, they are not playing well. They are, however (on most nights) doing enough to win, sometimes in the rare off-night that a goalie hasn't been great. Flames are finding ways to win. That's what good teams do. Win tight games. Don't get blown out. Good teams sometimes look like crap yet somehow escape with a W.
For sure this team needs to find more of that consistency. They have some stuff to figure out. Line adjustments probably have to be made. Some buttons need to be pressed I guess. Something needs to be done with how poorly this team plays - how listless they appear at times. But they are still finding ways to win. That's huge. Wait until those buttons are pressed, the line-ups are adjusted, and maybe even additional help is found. With the goaltending and depth that this team has, it can really start making some noise. Wouldn't surprise me.
For tonight, Rittich has been a God. That was some amazing #### he did tonight. He made it look easy. Almost had a shutout too, as he caught some of that Nylander tip, but just not enough to deflect it wide enough. That's about as good of a night as you are ever going to see in the NHL.

Entertaining game, and an incredible performance from Rittich.
I am firmly in the camp that thinks we need a coach. The way they defend now is just so painful to watch - way too passive, and then when they get the puck, they don't know what to do with it.
Outside their own end, things are fine. But in their own end, it is a disaster. And as a result, they are spending far too much time there. Fortunately the goalies are bailing them out these days. But how long can that continue?
Please oh great and powerful hockey gods, please let us sign Gallant and start to play the full court pressure that he had going in Vegas.

Really? I never heard that they did that. And I remember Keith as a rookie (man I’m old). In fact, I watched Walt (the real one) with a one punch knockout win in a fight once. I’ve never seen that again.

Wasn't Markstrom the first injury replacement?
Edit: He was. It's definitely a huge #### you to Koskinen though.
