How soon Oiler fans forget. Remember when the big goon Kassian rearranged Sam Gagners face? At that time Kassian was the dirtiest POS in the NHL according to Oiler fans. Now because he wears the orange and blue aberration, he's a warrior. Never change, Oiler fans!!

"If anyone should have to answer for his actions, it was McDavid, who threw a dirty and potentially dangerous hit on Tkachuk from behind into the boards in response to the hit on Kassian. If you want to be outraged, the McDavid hit was the one that has no place in the game.

...

"There was a time when a player – regardless of whether he was a star player or a fourth-liner – would occasionally get blown up by a clean, hard hit and respond by picking himself up and getting back into the play ... Now you can’t even hit a superstar 13-goal scorer such as Zack Kassian without having to fight."

Kassian has had multiple suspensions for far dirtier hits then Tkachuk has ever thrown in his life. People seem to forget that in this case. Grabbing a guy from behind and pummeling a player on the ice is a dirtbag move. Not only that but when Oiler fans and these idiot former players blather on about the code, one big aspect of the code is when you're fighting and have a player vulnerable on the ice you stop throwing punches.

Kassian is also a dirtbag and likes to fight people below his weight class.

Suddenly he's reformed because the cry baby can't take a hit.

The former players clearly have no concept of the whole code thing, the media and especially the media representing Edmonton have made a$$es out of themselves over the last couple of days.

The first time Kassian hits the ice in the next game, Lucic and Rinaldo should both come over the boards, and one should stand beside McDavid and the other one beside Kassian as an implied threat.

I was telling everyone about this in the game and they were like what? Sometimes it's good to know you didn't miss what you saw.

You know what Lucic did tonight when he was laid out on a hard and clean hit?

He got up, finished his shift and went to the bench. He didn’t grab the guy and drag him to the ice.

That's cause Lucic is actually a hockey player.

thats not the case here...

if a top line leading scorer didn't want to be ragdolled he shouldn't be antagonize a goon.
Who said that he didn’t want that to happen?
This is exactly what he wanted to happen, and he knew that targeting Kassian would lead to him blowing up eventually. This is what Tkachuk does. Gets under skin, draws penalties, and makes them pay on the score board. It wouldn’t surprise me if he tells his teammates to stay back when a situation like that occurs because he will be fine and they will be getting a lengthy PP

First man that loses his cool loses the fight. It's a simple expression to which Kassian fulfilled.

Tkachuk no doubt was chirping him. That, moreso than the checks, is why Kassian snapped.

I find the whole saga pretty fascinating. Kassian had the puck and isn't very bright so it was easy pickings. Matt knew he could lay him out and eventually Kassian would snap. Which he did. And led to the Flames GWG. Kassian got played, badly.

Of course Oiler fans are going to be upset. We would be too if MT was an Oiler doing the same thing. Legal, but big hits by a guy who gets under your skin easily. I would not be a fan if he played on another team.

If he was an Oiler, Oil Stain would be fine with the hits and we Flames fans would be upset.

If he was a Canuck, Barca would be fine with the hits and we Flames fans would be upset.

It's just the way it is. He's on our team. He's our guy. We're going to stick up for him, especially if the hits were legal (which they were). For other fans Chucky is the agitating SOB who runs around creating havoc and won't drop the gloves every time they want him to (which he shouldn't). And I really don't think it helps at all that our rivals are probably still a bit sour that their teams passed on an All Star like Tkachuk to draft two duds. It's salt in the wound.

I can see the Oiler fans getting fired up about the game, but what's really sad is seeing so many Edmonton 'journalists' really putting the fanboy pants on and trying to find anything on social media to help prove their angle that MT was some sort of evil villain for dishing out big, clean hits. It was/is really pathetic to see. I'm actually embarrassed for some of those guys.

I wish I could post my Canucks what’sapp chat on Tkachuk and this situation. One guy is out too lunch on Tkachuk. I’m defending him the whole time. I respect Tkachuks role and what he does. He plays his role to a T and I can’t hate him for that. As a Canucks fan we’ve had worse S*** disturbers, so why hate on him.

This one guy still thinks picking Juolevi was the right choice and was so happy we didn’t take Tkachuk.

I have a feeling the NHL wants to market the animosity and intensity, but the next Battle of Alberta has a Bertuzzi vs Moore vibe all over it. That's not a good thing.

Edmonton fans / media seem to be insanely outraged and want more vengeance. Kassian has publically stated he wants revenge. Kassian has no problem suckerpunching defenseless players in the back the of head. The NHL barely cares that he does this.

The NHL should be trying to de-escalate the situation and remove this buffoonery from the game. Instead they remain happy to be carnies catering to this sideshow. Its embarassing and people are gonna get hurt.

Similiar to the Doughty thing, I can almost guarantee both sides will be told by the league to keep things from blowing up. We might see an Oilers goon challenge Tkachuk, and a Flames goon challenge Kassian, and one or both of those staged fights might happen, but other than that the game won't meet hype

Nah. I think both Kassian and Tkachuk are idiots.

I've also talked numerous times in different discussions about how I don't like it when a player charges an opponent that is engaged with another player in a scrum like situation.

Nothing in the fan rule book says you have to be a hypocrite.

You don't have to love every guy on the team you support, and you don't have to blindly support their actions.

I still see Canucks fans defending the Bertuzzi incident and I think that's sad.

If I were a Flames fan I'd be happy to have Tkachuk on the team. That's because he's an elite forward and you can't just go out and get a new one from the elite forward supermarket, unless you are the Rangers. At the same time I'd still think he plays like an idiot and I'd be rooting for him to turn down the antics.

Good sportsmanship is important to me so I respect the players that exhibit it more, and the ones that don't less.

Obviously everyone doesn't feel the same, but that's the side of the line I'm on.

The league and refs deemed the hits legal...its not Flames bias

Lets get real here...we wouldn't even be talking about them if Kassian didn't go ape ####. The first hit that everyone seems to be freaking out about was barely a blip on the radar when it happened, did they even bring it up during the intermission?

Tkachuck is being vilified for legal hits...much worse has happened since then but its the big story because of the Oilers fanboy media enraging the fans. If Kassian played for the Canes and the same thing happened it would barely even register.

For Christ sake nobody even got hurt!

If you can easily line up the puck carrier in his own zone, you should do it.

That what I hate about the BS the Oilers are spewing. It's the antithesis of both smart hockey and physical hockey.

Why the hell should Tkachuk let a dumb-as-bricks guy like Kassian freely carry the puck out of the zone, and why does the fact that he already got Kassian once affect that at all? Quite the opposite, after that second hit his coach should be laying into him for being a dumb player that repeatedly gets laid out in exactly the same way, while carrying the puck.

If I see a Flame repeatedly lose the puck in his own zone, I'm blaming him for playing like s###. But because the Oilers are special snowflakes who think anything the opposition does is somehow cheating they're up in arms about "what Tkachuk did" instead of asking WTF is Kassian doing in their top 6?

Kassian is just trying to get away with playing like s### by being big and scary and legit dangerous, instead of playing like an actual pro athlete.

Git gud or gtfo. Don't blame the opposition for taking advantage of you sucking. You can't protect the puck with your fists.

I think the NHL basically said “Tkchuk deserved it a bit” by giving Kassian only two games.

Imagine what the punishment would be if Lucic went after Mcdavid who wasn’t engaging like that?
