Edmonton media is just milking this to distract from what actually happened. The Oilers lost the most Important game of the season. Doesn't help that it was to the Flames and happens to be the second one in short time.

All a distraction.

They lost the damn game because of this goof ass Kassian too. Completely ignoring the reality of the situation and trying to blame something legal and out of their control for the fact they lost.

That right there is the "something" special in the water in Edmonton. How this is all playing out is exactly why they have the biggest losing culture in the NHL.

Feels so good to be on the other side of this though after years of Bieksa, Perry, Kesler, Lapierre, and Burrows. More tears please.

Its actually fascinating how outside of Edmonton the collection of supposed "Unbiased" reporters are opining on this. It really shows their true colors.

After repeated viewings myself, the first hit I can see as walking the line. The head wasn't the principal point of contact, but it was collateral damage. The second hit was clean as can be. I can see the danger with its proximity to the boards though.

As far as targeting goes, well yeah it's hard to argue that it isn't, he got him three times. But they were all deemed clean. Since when is targeting taboo? How about the 10 targeted slashes Gaudreau took a few years ago. It's what players will do to win. The referees then have to do their job. Tkachuk obviously went after him because he was ripe for a retaliation penalty. Turns out Tkachuk couldn't have been more right, and the Flames arguably won the game for that reason.

The one narrative on our side of the discussion that I don't agree with is these "Thought experiments" where we are exchanging Tkachuk for McDavid and Kassian for Rinaldo or whoever.

While the horse collar assault it BS Tkachuk plays the game with that edge. He's a smart guy and the reason he's going after Kassian in the first place is because he knows that there's a good chance he's going to retaliate and take a penalty, otherwise why not go after Archibald or whoever else was on that line. Tkachuk, the league and the Flames for that matter know that if he's going to play the way he plays, he has to be able to handle what's coming back at him, illegal or not. Gaudreau, McDavid et al don't play that game. Tkachuk is an all star because he's a heck of a hockey player. But that's where the similarities end.

But man oh man, the takes coming from media all over the continent are fascinating.

The one article from Staples is particularly hilarious. "I'm mad and look at all these people that agree with me!"

"If you don't want to get hit then stay off the tracks."

12 words that pretty much sum up the entire thing.

Exactly. Pushing against this issue as much as possible and as long as they can feels more empowering to them than sitting with the reality that they were taken to school twice by the Flames in two totally different fashions. But it's just a big distraction that they're indulging in to numb the loss. They cling to an excuse or an issue within the game after most big defeats I've found.

Hardly any talk from a hockey standpoint on their end becaus its gotta sting mighty bad how in their "most relevant" 2/3 of a season since their flash in the pan season they're still getting bested by their provincial rival on every front.

They're channeling all the butthurt energy into an issue that feels like they're accomplishing something, but in the end the suspension will still be dealt and they'll just look worse as reporters for going off the handle so damn far.

James Neal was once labeled the dirtiest player in the NHL. Rich of him to open his mouth.

Hearing all of the "expert" opinions the last couple days, it sure gives a lot of credibility to biases towards the Flames. Unreal

There’s a GIF on HF of Neal running his leg into a players head on the ice. Someone needs to find it.

Immediately reminded of the James Neal Reddit AMA

Edit - Thanks Scroopy, it was Twitter not Reddit

He kneed Marchand in the back of the head and got a 5 game suspension.

Like how you respected the game by pouting in the corner and stealing $5.75M from an NHL team last year?

The Oilers are the biggest babies out there, my goodness. I'm pretty happy we have Lucic and Rinaldo on the team going into the next BoA.

"He did it three times" - yes, he legally checked Kassian 3 times. That difficult to swallow? Good grief you loser. I've never seen so much complaining about clean body checks.
Oh now I want to see Matthew hit Neal really really hard.

Thanks for the link. What a goof. Neal can eat a d. Hes the last guy that should be talking about having respect.

Honestly wtf is going on? I cannot believe all of this crap stemming from legal bodychecks on Zach Kassian of all players.

Edmonton media is just embarrassing. Their egging this on. They are the ones who are running with this story and the players have taken the bait and are saying exactly what they want them to say.
