Everything you need to know about the Oilers is contained in the ATL comments of our first three goals.

Goal 1: Complaining about Klefbomb
Goal 2: Complaining about Larsson
Goal 3: Complaining about Bear

It was the same thing in the first game in Edmonton. On every goal, you could see one of their defencemen make a terrible mistake.

The only reason Edmonton is even in a playoff race is how bad the Pacific Division is. If this was last year's Pacific, the Oilers are already in next year territory.

Not much has been said about Mcdavid just coasting and watching Lindholm get to the puck before scoring. Really lazy play by Mcdavid

I really believe that when things go bad, McDavid has a low give a crap factor. I mean if they're giving them the puck and he's scoring he's great, still crappy and lazy without the puck, but at least he's doing something. Even last night, he was rushing the outside, not battling to the inside. Not giving a crap about his defensive zone, and throwing lazy no look passes into the middle.

For 12 million dollars he should be doing a lot more.

Not a winner.

I got a kick out of Hughson last night. At one point, a D had the puck, gave it to McDavid, and ol Jim said the guy “smartly just gives it to McDavid”

It is bizarre how they think this works. Sure when he has time and space and can get up to top speed, he can beat people one on one. But to think it is wise not to bother even trying to use the other guys on the ice?

This franchise just keeps on giving

Coach Tippet before the game.

Tippet - "All right boys this is a huge game and we all know it"
RNH - "Because we're fighting for first place in the Division and the playoffs?"
Tippet - "Shut up you, No Connor isn't in the running for the Richard and he's only one point up on Draisaitl for the scoring lead and that simply won't do"
Connor with a smug look on its face - "Yeah"
Draisaitl - "But"
Connor - "Shut up you"
Tippet - According to Connor none of this playoffs nonsense matters damnit, he wants trophies, trophies lead to sweatpant suit endorsements, so Connor is going to get every offensive zone start, every power play minute until he leaves that dirt bag Draisaitl in the dust and brings home individual glory"
Draisaitl - "I hate this team"
Tippet - "Team cheer in three. One Two Three"
Rest of the team - "Connor"

Galaxy91122 uploaded the highlights of the game for those that want to relive the magic:

Goals
1-0 Goal by Elias Lindholm
Notable that it starts with Tkachuk flying in behind the net to hit Chiasson off the puck.

2-2 Goal by Johnny Gaudreau
Love the quick little adjustment by Hanifin off the boards to feed Monahan in the neutral zone to then feed Johnny.

3-3 goal by Dillon Dube

4-3 Goal by Elias Lindholm
Perfect screen by Chucky.

Bonus Clips

Tkachuk hits Kassian #1, plus the Slow-Mo
No mention by Hughson or Simpson. Literally too busy talking about McDavid's birthday.

Tkachuk hits Kassian #2

Kassian vs a Flames fan

Kassian tasting water for the first time

Tkachuk hits Kassian #3

Dying seconds of the 3rd

Talbot pumped up for the win

Watching those clips again, I'm really trying to find where or why so many fans want Tkachuk penalized or suspended. The shoulder was the point of contact on all 3 hits.

No elbow, high stick, head shot, hit from behind, etc. Hits him hard in the shoulder and Kassian's helmet goes flying off twice.

What exactly should he be suspended for? Just for being unlikable?

According to Scottie upshall, Tkachuk had no intent on playing for the puck and thusly the hit is considered extremely dirty.

Isn't that basically every hit ever? Knocking the puck off a player with it is standard.

The first hit is probably the most borderline watching the slow-mo. But Kassian is spinning and has his head low and extended in such a stupid way for a puck carrier.

Yeah I saw that, just ridiculous. Does he know Kassian somehow? Feels like he's sticking up for a buddy or something.

There's a zillion hits a year where one player lines up another without playing the puck. Does Upshall think you're not allowed to hit a player a millisecond after they've passed the puck? His take is just silly.

Upshall did have a PTO in Edmonton in Sept 2018. Think that's about it.

Oh I agree. I think it's because Tkachuk is better at being the perfect envelope pushing pest than they ever were. He doesnt go over the line like Marchant does. He's like a psyche assassin.

Probably been mentioned throughout the discussion, but re-watching the hit before Kassian loses his marbles, looks to me like McDavi comes in late and hits Tkachuk from behind.....

Upshall is a lifelong Oiler fan so anything he says is invalid.

Here's a gem from the HFOil boards, spelling error and all...

Quote:
I'm actually of the opinion that if Kass was hurt and on the ice from the hit, McD would've drooped his gloves.
I think he was close but Kass handled it himself.
McD probably would have 'drooped' his gloves, then skated away and waited for the game to restart so that he try for more McPoints.

The reason they're in it is that but also their confidence/knack for playing eastern teams, which constituted a large portion of their first half. Dont know what it is, if out of conference teams are looking past them or what, but they've played the west pretty poorly in comparison.

And now they'll be largely facing teams that are directly competing with them and will give a ####, and will be scouting and making game plans around limiting McAvi and I'd reckon they'll be much harder pressed to come by wins now with the goaltending coming down to earth as well.

Apparently Smith's had a couple hot starts (they actually wanted him to start against the flames!) but I would trust him about as far as I could throw him to sustain adequate performances.
