Was coming to say the exact same thing. The one about “why wasn’t the word racism used” was clearly meant to box Treliving in and paint him in a bad light.

Peters's kid goes to and plays for a highly competitive hockey school in Calgary, must be tough for him right now when the whole school is talking about his dad. He's gonna get bullied and chirped pretty hard on the ice

I think he had the last ten years to make amends with Aliu and elected not to.

I remember a little while back, Bill Maher said the N-word during his show. He ended up getting some heat for it but it eventually subsided and he continued on with his career. If you lean left, your racist behaviour generally gets a pass. Since Bill Peters is in an apolitical profession (for the most part) there is no pass. If you are looking for a rule or a guideline as to who can get away with what, that's it.

Yep. He's just not very good at picking coaches and signing free agents. If he ever gets that right he could be a very good GM.

What was Pinder getting at with his question? Challenging Tre as to whether he believed what Peters did was racist?
(I believe it was Pinder)

Yes, everyone should be treated completely "equally", without any consideration for the circumstances of their misconduct, their response to that misconduct, the type and nature of their employment, and how their employment might fit into the larger structures of our entire ####ing democratic system. Yes, this is the best way to proceed. Well said.

Jermaine isn't known for the best of questions. I find him and Francis don't pull their punches when questioning areas no one really needs to know about. Aka, how Treliving feels since he hand picked Peters, etc

Ok seriously they aren’t even remotely comparable.
Justin made his mistakes in his teens and 20s. Peters was an adult. Trudeau’s incidents were longer ago than Bill’s. Trudeau was elected by voters not chosen by a select few individuals from a private organization. If there was a public vote on Bill Peters’ job the results may be way different. There’s no ethics clause in the PM’s nonexistent contract. Trudeau has a long history of championing equality, while this makes him a hypocrite, it also means there’s plenty of evidence that suggests he’s learned. No such evidence exists for Bill. The n word is worse, way worse, than blackface.
Trudeau’s re-election has no relevance here.

Jesus can't believe the first thing I read in this thread is about Trudeau.
People talking about the rightness of Peters keeping his job? He resigned, probably the biggest cop-out for all parties. The Flames won't even say what he said was "racist". Not a very good wrap up.

Part of the settlement is likely to be that the Flames are prohibited from making negative comments about peters publicly.

Brad was very emotional in the press conference.
Brad got savaged by Jeff Merrick of the Hockey Central Panel. He basically wanted the Flames to accept full responsibility for the hire and that there needed to be a reckoning and that this whole thing was too lawyered up.
What an idiot.
The biggest thing to me is that Brad stated unequivocally that he considers the actions closed.
I would expect that the next step is between the league and Peters and we're looking at a long term ban for Peters and a requirement to apply for reinstatement.

They said his actions were repulsive. Pretty clear how they feel about it I think.

Even if they could I don’t think the Flames want the headline to read “Flames GM calls out coach he hired as racist”.
There’s no reason for the flames to play into that headline.

I would disagree. As you saw in the press conference, there are people literally foaming at the mouth trying to box people into saying something wrong. I gained a lot of respect for Treliving. He dealt with some of those questions very professionally.

I don't understand, how is it a cop-out? He's gone now.
