I think if we had a poll asking if Peters should be fired, we'd still see 95%+ in favour of it. And I don't think that would differ too much versus other fanbases in the league.
There are a few vocal minorities in this thread, but I think this forum is largely unified on this issue.

You're right, I think that most people agree that what he did was wrong and that he needs to be fired. That said, there is a spectrum of how outraged people are about it, and some people are trying to paint those who are only a little upset about it as racists which is not entirely fair.

Off topic overall is good, just have to know what topics/threads to stay away from. I avoid politics and generally have a good experiance

The cherry incident and Peters issues are different. I was upset with the treatment of cherry and upset he lost his job over those comments, which were taken out of context by keyboard warriors.
I can't wait to see Peters get canned. The guy should never coach another game in NHL and is an embarrassment to the sport.
Two completely different contexts and issues at play.

Which is why I quit posting in this thread (until now of course). I come here to follow the Flames related news and would rather not get caught in the middle of the two extremes battling it out on the social justice front. This thread has degenerated into something pretty sad IMO.

Poll results would be far more interesting if the Flames were sitting top 5 in league standings right now

I'm surprised at the amount of people I'm seeing bring up that the N word is used in entertainment and rap lyrics and that makes people think it's okay to say it.
You know what actually helped my wrap my head around the N word? Believe it or not, South Park. As a white guy, there's no use in me trying to make sense of who can say it, when or why. South Park taught me I just don't get it, and probably never will. The impact that word has is way beyond what my brain will understand based on my own personal experiences. Yeah, to me it's just a word, but that's just to me and on this subject, my own experience doesn't mean jack

It’s not just Alberta either, I used to be very much of the opinion that racism was not an issue in this country for most of my young adult life, until I started dating my current GF who is from Nigeria for the past 9 months. The stories she has told me about the racism she’s had to deal with since she’s been here was a real eye opener and I had to witness her have to deal with not 1 but 2 racist landlords. I’ve seen a massive difference in how we get treated in customer service situations compared to how I was treated when I was dating a white girl, not to mention the endless stares we get in public. It’s almost like people haven’t seen a very dark person with a white person before. Idk I feel like I’m rambling but it’s not an Alberta problem, we live in BC, racism is everywhere in this country and if you disagree you just haven’t talked to someone whose experienced it.
Also, most of her racist experiences have been with classmates and people of her age group (early 20’s). I won’t get into details but it’s shocking some of the stuff she has heard at school, social functions, and parties.

My ex wife was half native and I know exactly what you're talking about. It was a real eye opener to see the difference in how people interacted with us vs when I was alone or with other white people

Here's from Killum!?!?! I used to drive by that #### hole on my way to Wainwright for training. There was a restaurant right off the highway named "Killum Kountry Kafe" they refused to help one of our Asian officers when our bus broke down. I'm not saying everyone in Killum is racist but it certainly is a hotbed for it.

Don't forget about their jr team named the Killam Indians. I can't help but think the play on words was intentional
Edit: Worth noting they changed the name to wheat kings 10 years before Peters was part of the team

Out of context? He literally said it on live TV and then later said he meant what he said.

That restaurant existed as named until at least 2008.

Looks like 'kinsella kountry kafe' got rebranded to 'the hitching post' if googling isn't failing me. Progressive stuff!

I'm pretty sure that 100% of us want him fired. Despite the nuances of how it's being viewed and talked about.

Oh dang you're right! It was Kinsella not Killam. Well I'm sure Killam is a hotbed of progressive values. Apologies to Killam and its current and former residents.
Edit: the towns are 48 km apart. Probably no overlap
