We all know he's going to get relieved of his duties so I don't understand why some are so impatient to want it announced right this minute.

We now live in a world of instant gratification. After just a few hours people (particularly online social justice warriors who try, convict and hang within minutes) are already tired, want the file closed and are ready to move on to the next scandal.

This is where I think it's over-simplistic, wrong, and frankly, I think it's giving management an easy out. Statistically thinking, the general rule of thumb regarding sampling is the approximate number of 30 for a decent sample size. If you have a quick conversation with 30 random individuals of all types from someone's past (not just people who will confirm your beliefs), you should get a good understanding of if anyone is a good fit. It doesn't have to be long conversation, but it can be checklist type stuff, and noting how they're answering too. Anyway, nobody really calls 30 people up for a regular job, but for something as important as a coach it doesn't seem that crazy an idea.

Treliving doesn't have to be racist for this to be the underlying reason. Depends on how Peters framed his reports, he got Akim demoted to the ECHL without the Blackhawks knowing the true reasons behind the demotion request.

Racism-aside, the difference between a hard-ass coach that is praised and a hard-ass coach that is condemned is results. Rightfully or wrongfully.
Everyone involved in Babcock's hiring knew of his antics in Detroit...it was done by someone coached by him. If it came out 10 days ago that Babcock was playing mind-games with Marner but the Leafs were first in the league, he still has his job. And I know this because the now-confirmed-rumour about the Marner incident has been going on for over a year, and Commodore has not been shy in saying the type of person Babcock is.
So Treliving getting a coach with a reputation of being a hard-ass is probably what he was looking for, especially given the alleged rumours of the party-like atmosphere the Flames youngins have enjoyed.

You really might be onto something here.
I did notice that Peters doesn't sing Iginla's praises on a daily basis. Couple that with sending Kylington down to the minors and you can easily connect the dots.

There's a difference between a minor league coach reporting to the boss in another city and Peters making recommendations to Treliving, who sees the team every day.
Anyway, we are into tin foil territory.

Bennett was built for a Hartley like system, where play is more open. In a structured short pass system like Gully and Peters system Bennett has struggled.
Posters seem to forget how good Bennett was under Hartley, gotta let him crash, and allow the wingers to jump up quicker.
If Peters is let go, and everything that has been leaked is true I would like a less predictable structure.
A little more Zipp, I don't want to return to all out chaos like Hartley's system but something in the middle. So many forwards would benefit from this, but mostly Johnny, Backs and Bennett.
I want exciting games, I want more open ice, I want some good ole stretch passes.
We have the firepower to do it.

I don't believe Treliving is racist (there is no evidence of this), but I think with these allegations, Treliving needs to ask questions. He needs to figure out if Peters' racism had an impact on the Calgary Flames.

Things are changing and a lot of the 'that stuff sucks, but what can you do about it' is being addressed. The time has come for everyone to stop putting up with this ####. Call it out - make it stop.

Whew thank god I was so concerned about sharks fans holding this against the organization.

is this really true though?
i seem to recall the Flames being pretty fun to watch, up until the ASG game at least... i think that was the most games i had watched in years last year... i don't recall it being boring or overly structured to the point of it being boring...

More than spelling the name wrong, this whole thing is wrong. Scrambling what has already been quoted by the player doesn’t help anything. What was actually said was bad enough, you don’t need to make things up.

One small quibble
He didn’t call Akim the N-word
Quote:
Speaking publicly for the first time since he made the allegation on Twitter, the Nigerian-born Aliu said Peters made the remarks in the AHL’s Rockford Ice Hogs dressing room before a morning skate during the 2009-10 season while the 20-year-old Aliu controlled the team’s music.
“He walked in before a morning pre-game skate and said ‘Hey Akim, I’m sick of you playing that n----- s---,’ ” Aliu told TSN, with Peters, who was then the Ice Hogs head coach, referring to Aliu’s selection of hip-hop music. “He said ‘I’m sick of hearing this n-----s f------ other n-----s in the ass stuff.’
“He then walked out like nothing ever happened. You could hear a pin drop in the room, everything went dead silent. I just sat down in my stall, didn’t say a word.”

I'm wondering if Peters lawyers would have a defamation case as well. People can change but with all that has been said, it may prevent him from getting work in the future.

How would he even argue defamation in this case which has been independently corroborated?
