Flames/Hockey Canada/Carolina/... all could have done a decent job on their due diligence process and still not figured this one out. They don't speak to every player he ever coached for goodness sake.
Bill Peters was a good hire for the Flames at the time of his hiring. Now, it appears, it will be a good firing.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

i'd be curious to know more about Derek Ryan, who played for Peters down in the WHL and chose to sign with Calgary, in part, due to his relationship with Peters... Now it could very much be a case of stars being treated differently, so maybe Ryan never bore the brunt of Peter's behavior, but i'd be surprised if he never saw anything...
anyways, its a cluster f that's for sure...

TBF, the Canes weren't in a helping mood, since Peters sort of abandoned them IIRC. He had an option year and he opted out to go to another team. They weren't going to give any info before he opted out, that's for sure.

I think we see improved play out of Frolik and Jankowski tomorrow in buffalo. Huge weight off their shoulders I’m thinking. Johnny will also smile after both of his goals.

I hope you're right.

Which is why I don't agree with people trying to finger Brad on this. Companies make bad hires all the time and can only find out so much and will often rest some of that decision on the fact that another quality company had hired the person in the past.

Bill Peters:
1) Called Akim the N-Word
2) The captain of the team talked to Peters and told him the entire team thought Peter's actions were unacceptable. Peters then called Akim into his office and instead of apologizing, called Akim the N-word again
3) When Akim pushed back, Bill Peters ruined his career

I honestly think this is all about players abiding by a long established code of silence.
Derek Ryan won't say anything bad about Peters even if he witnessed it firsthand. It's the same reason Treliving would not have gained much useful information had he approached former players and asst. coaches for their thoughts, either.

Perhaps a new coach will help both these players take another step forward?

It appears 1), 2) and 3) are inaccurate.

i think it was a mutual decision... there was a window to either continue on or walk away and i believe it was agreement between the two parties to part.
it was a case of the new owner wanting 'his own guy' iirc...
Abusive coaches stay in the game because no one speaks up however... enablers empowers abusers.... or winning trumps methods...
anyways, at this point it seems to be fait accompli

I wonder if Kylington was sent to the minors because he's black.

I think when Bennett comes back, he will play better too and maybe get more than a period on the second line.

Don't worry Flame fans - as a Sharks fan, I don't hold any of this against the organization. I know that Peters will not be behind the bench at the next game - CGY will do the right thing. The Flames will be fine and I'm terrified that they will finally start playing. I've been wondering all season what was wrong...
Things are changing and a lot of the 'that stuff sucks, but what can you do about it' is being addressed. The time has come for everyone to stop putting up with this ####. Call it out - make it stop.
