Seems obvious what they are saying is stop making the same mistake. That's our money you are wasting. Plus it limits your options.

Straight buy out? No i get that...but if they kiboshed retaining 50% to get out of the 4 years left and get something in return...then I think they are wrong. Very very wrong.
I really really REALLY hope they are not telling BT how to spend his budget though. This would be an example of such however.

No kidding.
He's still better than Rieder, Janko, Rinaldo and Quine for example on this team, and definitely better than Micheal Haley of the Rangers, Chris Stewart of the Flyers, John Hayden of the Devils, Scott Sabourin of the Sens, and of course Brouwer of the Blues but that doesn't make him an NHL calibre player.

I take it you're talking about Tampa, statistically the #1 overall team has the best chance of winning the Cup.

Defence and especially goal tending a pretty important "goal scoring is all that matters" is a pretty stupid statement. The league is full of players that don't score many goals that GMs and coaches value.
I get that everyone is frustrated with the Flames but to take it out on a fourth liner (who actually has a point this week) and fellow fans is stupid

I'm talking that goal scoring isn't "all that matters"
You agree unless you think Neal is better than Crosby

But thats the thing...it isnt being "wasted" in this scenario, it is only going to a different spot with the hope of replacing that spot with a cheaper player than what is left over and getting more production and/or a better fit.

lol, i'm not taking it out on a fourth liner, I'm saying spending 5 million bucks on a 4th liner is idiotic and it's part of the reason the flames can't score goals.
The flames are paying a guy 5 million bucks to score 0 goals whereas other teams are paying guys 5 million bucks to score 20-40 goals.
The reason the flames can't score goals is partially because they don't have enough goal scorers, because they are paying close to 10 million bucks to guys who either can't score or who don't even play for the Flames anymore.
That's what 6 years of Treliving has brought thus far. 31st in goal scoring rate, 27th in actual goal scoring.

That's the leap I don't get.
Putting an end to dead money is a lot different than telling someone how to spend the rest of the cap space.

Don't think anyone is debating that.
But the problem started with the Neal contract, not with the Lucic contract. Once you have a black hole in your cap you can either live with it or move it for a better fit.
Ideally you have neither.
The team was 2nd in goal scoring last year, not sure a quarter of this season rubs that out.

They were 2nd in scoring last season despite spending more on Neal
And nobody is defending the Lucic contract so you guys can go lol yourself

I think we just need to leave it, we are right in what we have said these guys are just looking for a pound of flesh.
"Lucic isn't an NHLer he is just a better player than these 10 guys who are literally NHL players" I mean how do you argue that

How did the conversation turn on Lucic? He’s been our best player during this skid. Virtually the only one who looks like he gives a ####.

You referring to my quote where I referenced 4 other Flames players as well as Micheal Haley, John Hayden, Chris Stewart, Scott Sabourin and Brouwer?
Well, it's because those guys are not NHL calibre players either.

You lost me, Crosby is better in every way including assists and goals. Unless you're cherry picking this season where Crosby had a hernia and had to undergo surgery?

I don't think they are telling him how to spend the budget. But I do think they are telling him that if he buys out Neal that that money is coming from the budget.

Crosby had 5 goals in 17 games...Neal had 12
Crosby was playing better
Goals aren't all that matters

This is straight up fiction though - no such deal has ever been even hinted at.
