Don’t know where I stand with this team. Clearly they are a borderline average team that can execute against some weaker opponents. They just don’t have what it takes to get to that elite level. I’m fairly confident this will be the last shot for this core and changes will come. The question is when? Give it a full season to see what we truly have or start to tinker now and prepare for the future.

Now that team is back home, they have to spend a lot of time in practice on changing the PP, and implementing a structure that works. The PP is actually the team's own PK.

Just one of those nights. Little mistakes ending up in the back in the net. Johnny and Money not having great nights. PP struggling.

That dive that resulted in the 4-2 goal still irks me. Can't call 2 dives in the 3rd like that, ever. The refs had the whistles put away for the most part and then got suckered in by those two obvious dives. Pretty ridiculous.

When is Bennett going to have his first fight this year?

Also, I thought the refs were fine tonight.

Watching a guy like Vrana develop really shows how disappointing it is to not get a player out of the 2014 draft. 2014 was one of the deepest drafts in memory with at least 8 franchises getting franchise type players in that draft and most teams getting at least one player that the Flames would take over any of their 2014 picks.

In any event it ended up being an average road trip, which given the caliber of the competition on the trip is pretty good.

Give the Caps some credit: fast, tough to play against, scrappy checkers.

OTOH, didn't like the non-call on Wilson, the lazy play by Brodie on the 4th goal or Talbot cheating off his post on the 2nd one.

Not a stinker, just a too-sloppy game at the short end of a long road trip.

Wilson and Backstrom should atleast be a little lighter in the pockets after this game but the league are cowards.

2-2-1 on the road trip. Not bad. Not great. Flames have had arguably one of the tougher schedules to start the season, and with our two best players slumping at the same time, frankly I'm amazed that we're still over .500 on the season.

Hopefully they can get on a roll for this home stand and climb back up the standings.

And for the love of humanity, please practice the damn PP.

Meh. Hard to get a more difficult schedule to start the season than this and they are still right in it. If the Oilers had the same schedule they'd be lucky to be 4-10-1 instead of 10-4-1.

Default Capitals 4, Flames 2

Not overly disappointed, 2nd of a back to back at the end of a road trip and no one was overly terrible. Caps top guys were just better than our top guys tonight. Talbot had an okay game for a back up and both teams had their chances, Caps just converted on theirs. Still you can see definite improvement throughout the team/systems compared to the beginning of October. Sure would be nice to see
Johnny breakout in a big way, just snakebit right now. 2-2-1 is a decent road trip against teams that all made the playoffs last year, that’s a tough stretch. Just got to string some W’s together on this stretch at home.

What's that 9 playoff teams on the road...no real homestand yet. Flames need to improve but are in an okay spot considering

Yeah, for a league that defends its refs publically to a fault, they refuse to defend the refs from greasy divers embarrassing them. I don’t get it.

(Well, actually I do.)

It doesn't look great but to lose against the top team in the league isn't something to be ashamed of. Even if your two rivals managed to get wins out of them.

I thought the Flames did pretty good.

There was a ton of pressure and the Flames were buzzing for a goal when Vrana got his hat trick goal. Giordano was deep because he smelled a goal coming.

I think this game really did come down to a good bounce versus a bad bounce on that play.

This was a decent game by the Flames, I felt. Especially with Gaudreau still clearly not feeling it at all.

So the first can end up as lottery pick?
Who's playing centre?

We need to learn to make and be able to take crisp passes. It’s painful and usually ends up on an odd man rush the other direction because we can’t do tape to tape passes

Leads going into the third in two of those losses.
That said, the top line continues to get shut down, and now that lack of production have gotten them struggling on their own, minus Lindholm.
Outside of Tkachuk, the second line is useless for a scoring threat as well, which allows other team to focus, still on the top line.
