Starbucks has been closing stores over the past year. The one up center st at 10th ave closed, ditto for the Superstore location at 72nd and center.

The Superstore location was odd, too. I don’t imagine rent / lease costs were anything like the inner city locations, and it was busy. Or maybe I only went to them during their regularly busy hours.

I figure that Kensington Starbucks location would be perfect for Village Ice Cream to finally put a store north of the Bow river in Calgary.

Another fitness studio? What does that make, 6 in the area?
- Kensington Fitness
- Orange Theory
- New one in HSBC
- Urban Athlete
- Spin studio by Crave
With app delivered in home - increasing eating at physical fitness studios - not all of these are going to survive...
At least it's not a bank I guess.

Don't forget about 10th Street Boxing gym. Not a fitness studio, but another (better in my opinion) option in the area.

Correct, the owners are moving to Banff. On twitter it was mentioned they'd be open until Christmas.

Isn't Naked Leaf already there?
I hope Good Trade is good. The other coffee shops are packed silly.

Sounds like they are moving spaces up the stairs to be right on the street front. Maybe can keep existing patio.

A little weird that they're opening and Starbucks just closed? Although that Starbucks was always busy, so I'm not sure of the reasoning there.

Starbucks doesn't have franchises. Just a corporate head for each region.

Starbucks locations are never franchised.
So here’s the scuttlebutt, Starbucks left that location with zero notice to the landlord, they’re on the hook for many years’ worth of rent. Left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing, it was a surprise to Seattle as well.

seems like someone did the math and it was cheaper to walk away than keep the location open.
