Not going to pay 20+ dollars for a Burger/Fries and a Drink and feel like I got good value from 320.

My other complaint was when they swapped from Oyster Mushrooms to Button Mushrooms and kept the price the same.

Callebaut Franchise has closed.

Vietnamese restaurant under Hexagon has been gone for a while too.

An unfortunate amount of empty spaces for lease in the neighbourhood right now. At least the Lot 102 building is getting some attention. The deck was torn off, siding repaired and a new paint job. Too bad it’s for a cannabis shop.

I know a business owner in Kensington.

They went from printing money to barely making payroll. Thankfully, they were smart when times were good and now are in a position to buy low, and possibly expand.

Did they break it down - economy (demand), min wage, taxes, lease, ...? I’m curious- all of that had changed since the boom times.

Property Taxes.

Min wage meant more precise scheduling of staff, he'd run short and when they unexpectedly got super busy and then try to call in reinforcements.

The Livingstone & Cavell Toy Store on the same block is closing at the end of the year too. The owners have moved to Banff.

Kensington is going to be a ghost town if it already isn't.

It's not a ghost town, lots of action still with all the restaurants and pubs. I'll cry if Vero, Hayden Block, Brasserie (and Container Bar) were to shut down.

It's also still a zone where I can do a lot of my Christmas shopping, places like Purr, The Beehive, Meraki Supply, Pages and many others still offer quite a good selection.

I have this odd memory of the Kensington Pub once being called the Bulldog Pub.

Am I miss-remembering?

That's the same as your dad saying he's just going to the store for cigarettes.

It gone.

Upon further review, it looks like they’ve closed for an “undetermined” amount of time for “renovations”. Hopefully dad doesn’t come back from getting smokes. Even with a facelift.

Julio’s Barrio is one of the worst restaurants I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing. They do nothing well. I feel nauseous just thinking about their "food".

From Skyrisecities Calgary section (this is the new skyscraperpage btw, since the Calgary one became a dumpster fire) it appears as though Julio's has a couple of change of us Development Permits, one for General Retail and Consumer Service and the other for Fitness Centre. So maybe it's getting broken into two pieces with two different uses when it opens up again.

Yawn. I'd guess the curved glass upstairs will be all treadmills then and the main floor will sit with a For Lease sign for a decade.

I am surprised about the particular Starbucks locations that are closing. These all seemed really busy to me with a lot of traffic. Especially the one in the Bow.
