Struck me as odd.
At least 4...includes this year. Why wouldn't it? He is here and "playing" and affecting cap levels on this team during this season, then there are 3 more years attached. That will affect the team for at least 4 years.
News (?): Refers to Bill "Babcock" Peters and tells a story about how him and James Neal celebrated the Leafs elimination from the playoffs (because of Babcock). Wonder if Neal has a similar Peters story to Commodore's Babcock story.

On the morning show a while back he touched on this. While he “admitted” that Neal deserves his share of the blame for not being in the shape he should have been, he was very critical of how Peters used Neal.
It was a disaster all around. Neal laid an egg and was useless. The Flames plan in signing they guy didn’t seem well thought out either.

When lindholm scores amost ppg, and the 3m line was great, yet the big ufa signing barely comes into camp in shape, and looks like crap for the opportunities provided, what is any coach supposed to do.
Neal sucks, he'll fall back, and when he does, he doesn't have the mental fortitude to claw himself back.
Maybe if Neal had actually cowboyed-up and gave the coach a reason to use him higher in the lineup, he might still be here. Don Cherry defended Neal saying Calgary should have treated him like a star. Sure, let's give the most useless player on the roster the star treatment. Neal didn't want to be here. He signed the big contract and got out of town. Good riddance.
Nashville left him unprotected
Vegas didn't bring him back
Media narrative right now is he is a star and Calgary blew it...I realize he scored more goals for those teams but they didn't value him all that high either obviously. 30 teams could have had him for free this past summer...likely with salary retained.

I think Don Cherry was essentially telling the CBC to treat him like a star

Watching Blackhawks game. Neal had 1 shot all game and basically non-existent until PP at the end where he put one in. A mite could have scored that. The real heal.
