Agreed. And the way he treated Sabourin was pretty low class as well.

I hate to sound like an old guy yelling at clouds, because I'm far from old, but if he gets the captaincy, it's further showing to what is wrong with our society now, catering to entitled individuals, and enabling them. He will never grow up, he will never mature, and he will never be humble. It's a sad showing, as kids will see him, think that's how you should carry yourself, and grow up to be just as bad or worse.

Another poster said it, there are plenty of examples of superstar athletes who carry themselves with poise and grace, role models you hope your children look up.

There are also some examples of superstar athletes at a younger age, much like Matthews, came across as arrogant and entitled, but as they grew up, matured. They had the benefit of having great veterans and people around them to guide them. Patrick Kane comes to mind.

I won't write him off yet, as he's still young, and I did plenty of dumb things when I was young too, and probably came across as an a-hole. But I hope for his sake and really, those who look up to him as a role model, that Tavares gets the C, and he learns to take some humble pie.

Conversations like these make me hate the internet.
I could just imagine a group of similar internet trolls on a jury, smashing their heads against the wall.
Fun times.

If i was in the leafs management, my vote for captaincy would be Morgan Reilly, regardless of this incident...

I tried putting myself in her shoes.

I'm a grown ass man and I'm not small. I'm bigger than Auston Mathews. If a group of young men, apparently drunk, approached my car late night and tried opening it, I would be scared and I would immediately call the cops. Not sure what the other guys look like physically, but Auston Mathews is a pro athlete and probably looks strong and intimidating at night.

Thankfully she was not physically assaulted, but her feelings about the incident are valid, and are not up for debate. Fear, anger, sadness, regret, etc all valid.

The cops obviously thought the incident was serious enough to lay a charge. So any talk of boys will be boys is hogwash and you people saying so should be ashamed of yourselves. They crossed every line.

What Mathews should have done (or his advisers) is turn this ugly negative into a positive. Immediately own the action. Use his fame to offer a very sincere and public apology, then use his massive wealth to maybe offer to pay for something for the victim i.e.: classes if she's a student, childcare if she's a mom, etc. Then make a sizable donation to a Scottsdale area charity that has something to do with violence against women, or women's rights groups. The hockey world would have applauded his maturity, instead now he's vilified and lost the captaincy. In my opinion, he has no one to blame but himself.

Based on my interaction with Arizona citizens, she would be getting a medal.

Arizona is a pretty strong Stand-Your-Ground State. As long as a "reasonable person" fears for their life they can use deadly force. So at the time of him trying to open the door, I see no reason for her to be charged if she shot him (outside of him being rich and white...). It would be almost impossible for a prosecutor to convince someone to have charges laid and would never get a jury to convict.

Now if it got to the point of him walking away and pulling down his pants and that's when she shot, then that would be a bit more grey but honestly, not a slam dunk either.

There was a case, not too long ago, where a person, David Mota, almost caused an accident, this resulted in road rage with the person speeding up to confront Mr. Mota and calling him a "####ing [racial slur]." Mr. Mota, shot and killed the person. There was no evidence that this person had a weapon, no evidence he threatened Mr. Mota. Ironically, the only reason for Mr. Mota to assume his life was threatened was that he was assuming that the other driver had a gun just like he did (it's Arizona afterall). Mr. Mota was also drinking and driving, if I recall correctly.

But Mr. Mota was found not guilty eventually.

So I'd find it hard to see how (assuming relatively petite) woman would not be fearful of her safety when confronted by multiple men trying to break into her vehicle and that's really all she needs to shoot them.

Arrogant and entitled.

There was another video today where they are doing a drill to get shots through a shot blocking dummy and the dummy blocks his shot and he pushes it over. He appeared to maybe be joking but he still didn't help the staff pick it up or reset the dummy.

Just bugged me for whatever reason. Not captain material at all when you have a guy like Tavares or Reilly there IMO.
Man this reminded me of when Johnny was walking down the tunnel cheering and knocking some sticks over after an interview. He actually stopped, turned around and picked them all up. No waiting for any staff to pick that up!

This was not a non-issue for the woman involved and was probably anything but a "goofy time" for her.

Didn't he have issues with Babcock because he's an entitled baby?

If the Leafs make him captain they're idiots.

Personally I think both him and Babcock kind of come off as entitled babies.

I'd take Quenneville, or Trotz before Babcock any day of the week.

So, if you walked outside of a bar and were walking towards your car. Then you noticed a bunch of guys trying to get into your car with your girlfriend inside.

You'd laugh?
