Haha, I am just saying, if she is a lifeguard she might get hit on a lot and as such might not take you seriously, thinking you are just hitting on her because of the situation. I'm not trying to be insulting.

The fact you've been thinking about it for this long, are even slightly concerned about circumstances around asking her out and haven't even actually done it yet pretty much proves my initial point. She's already screwing your mind up and you haven't even asked her out yet. That's what women do. They have the power to confuse you without even talking to you.

heh, didn't think you were insulting, was just curious, I've made an effort to be friendly, which I've often been told I'm not.
I think I must take myself pretty seriously at the gym etc. Some people have mentioned I ignore them, or am not particularly social, yet I am mostly there for a reason and stay on task.
That said, what about hitting on women at the gym? I've gotten some some glances, or been caught giving them at the gym before. Never done anything about it, maybe a smile and that's it.
Any non wheelchair/wet white underwear strategies, or leaping out from behind apparatuses yelling "I'm the devil" ways for approaching women at the gym?
I spend a fair amount of my free time there, thus there is a greater chance I'd meet someone with something in common at one then lets say... At a bar

The gym I go to is pretty much social night every weeknight from 6-9 pm. As I am trying to actually work out I go at different times during late night. Although now that I am newly single I thought about going during the social period, however most gym bunnies kind of annoy me.

It's so weird that even at 26 that I can meet a girl who makes me feel like I am 16 all over again.

That'd work.
Back in my single days, one ice breaker (not a true pick-up line) I had was to lean close to a girl and say, "My, your eyes are the same color as my Porsche."
I usually had to do a lot of fast talking when they saw my '78 Plymouth Volare.

Yeah, but I'd view a gym bunny as probably the same type I'd see all done up being bunnyesque at a bar. Although I'm not looking for a female juice monkey either

Not usually. I would much rather prefer a honest and sincere guy. I find cocky guys to be very unattractive. You have no idea how much it means to find a guy who'll listen to you and just wants to get to know you.
Smile and be sincere. I won't speak for all the women, but I prefer a guy who wants to get to know me first and perhaps the relationship will progess. Something like grabbing some coffee or a quick bite to eat. Talk and get to know her. You have nothing to lose. If things don't work out romantically, you'll have a good friend and honestly, there's nothing wrong with that.

The best thing to do is not overanalyze it and just ask...but seeing as how there is a multi-page discussion on your situation, the overanalyzing ship seems to have sailed already.

See there it is. I used to be that guy "the good friend", but then I blended some cocky *******ness into my routine with girls and I actually got girlfriends. I am a nice guy but in order to keep her interested you can't be a nice guy all the time or she's just going to walk all over you...

I don't know what to say. Women aren't all the same. Some us actually appreciate the good ones, because they don't come around that often.

I used to have trouble asking girls out, and then I realized the worst they could do is say no, and the finality of that was better than wondering and never doing anything. There were a few quality girls that I had opportunities to ask out but chickened out and missed out and spent a lot of time wondering "what if". I decided that if things weren't working out it wouldn't be because I was afraid to make a move. Life is too short to be afraid to take risks.
So, my advice is to go for it. If you already have had casual contact, it you are ready to go. If she says no, that just allows you to adjust your focus to another girl. That really is not so bad.
Dating is not about having the best batting average. It's about getting some hits.

Make sure it's someone you can really connect with, I'm single right now and really have no need for a signifigant other. Just from my life experiences it's best to find that special person to spend your time with that a one or two month GF that you'll end up hating...
Either way, you'll know when to ask a girl out for a coffee, a walk, ect once you get to talking a bit.
