I quite like what's around 26. Not sure there's enough pop for me to trade down.
That is of course said pick isn't moved for roster upgrading. I can see 26 go for a starting goalie. Or the balance of a deal for a really good forward.
I mean of the Zucker deal was any indication, The first is in play.
But I really want the Flames to make a pick in round 1 this year.

McMichael
Hoglander
Tomasino
Kayilev
Brink
really hoping calgary gets a guy that fits these type of players...

Hoglander stands out to me as well, very underrated I think and he may jump the rankings. His size worries me a bit, but he's real quick.
Also big on Kayilev and Brink, I'd be happy with either of these 3 unless we choose to try and trade up.
I wish we were able to try and jump high to land Dach, big RHS with speed/skill

I'd say we know the first was in play but a big part of the valuable it would have gotten back was tied to a possible run this year.
With that now gone, I don't know that it is as much in play as it was - or perhaps it still is but to address different needs.
I too want them to make a pick this year.

Foot speed is sub par

Big

Decent season as an overager

I hope we draft a high risk/reward player with speed and skill. Don't draft an "NHL-ready" grinder.

He's like a slightly better Hunter Smith at this point.

Doing some reading up on potential picks at 26. I think that because this draft is so deep at centre, the Flames will be able to find a decent BPA in that position.
A player that I could see falling to 26 is Alex Newhook who is ranked as high as 9 by elite prospects but as low as 20 by TSN/McKenzie.
Newhook simply dominated in the BCHL and is committed to Boston University next year.

Speed for days and the disregard for safety to use it anywhere. Dangerous hands, good hockey sense and is equally deadly with the pass or the shot. Already a strong defensive player.

I think that the league he performed in, and the college factor, will contribute to a small slide.

His foot speed isn't that slow. Still think he'd be a good choice.

That's a stretch.
Leason had 89 points in 55 games this season alone as a 19 year old.
Smith had 91 points in 166 games during his entire Junior career and showed little improvement from his 18 to 19 year old seasons.

I mean there's more than just Leason out there.
RW Simon Homlstrom
C/RW Phil Tomasino
G Spencer Knight
RW/C/LW Yegor Afanaseyev (Personal Favorite)
C Adam Beckman
RW Pavel Dorofeyev
LW Nolan Foote
I do really like a ton of players from ranked 15 to 50. I somehow wish we could land Arthir Kaliyev or Philip Broberg. But they'll be long gone by the Flames pick. Dream Scenario, Podkolzon falls all the way down to the Flames spot and we skip him for a D man..../sarcasm.

I don't study prospects but one thing I know is that Treliving likes multi position guys, so two of those have an edge.

Dorofeyev played on a line with Zavgorodniy for team Russia events too. So that may have an edge.

This is my hope too that we can snag this kid. I can't see him falling him out of the top 15 though because his ceiling seems so high and he's already a good 200 ft player. Maybe we trade up with someone like Philly to select him.
Based on wanting more speed my top 3 hopes would be:
1. Alex Newhook (most likely need to trade up)
2. Philip Tomasino
3. Jake Pelletier

Philip Tomasino checks a lot of boxes.
Shoots right
Decent size
Good skater
Good shot
Big draw back is that he is a liability in his own zone, but I think that is something that the Flames can live with. Not every draft pick should kill penalties.
I think that He will likely be on the board at 26 as well.

Another good player I'd like to see in Flames silks is Raphaël Lavoie.
Issue is that he is ranked 12 by ISS and likely wont fall to 26.
It's hard to look past the fact that he is 6'4" and shoots right. Not to mention his back to back 30+ goal season in the Q looks good on him.
Big draw back on him, as you might assume is that he is reported as being a poor skater. Also, there is always the fear that he gets his way by having a mans body in a boys league. This of course does not always translate to the NHL.

Players can always learn the defensive side of the game if they are willing to work at it. He may never win the Selke but so what. Offense you can't really teach so if its Tomasino or someone like him I would be happy with that at 26.
