United Conservative Party Leader Jason Kenney refused to comment this weekend on a reported court injunction seeking to shut down an investigation — into the funding of the so-called “kamikaze” leadership campaign — until after the Alberta election.
At a press conference, Kenney said he wouldn’t speak on a matter before the courts and said he only learned about it after a CBC story was published Friday afternoon.
“All I can tell you is that we’ve been clear from day one that, on any of these questions, we are happy to assist either the office of the election commissioner, the RCMP, or anyone else,” he said.
The apparent emergency court order, which aims to delay an investigation into irregular campaign contributions during the leadership race between Jeff Callaway, Kenney and former Wildrose Leader Brian Jean in 2017, was reportedly filed at the Calgary courthouse on Friday.
If successful, the injunction would suspend the probe until after the April 16 election.
The injunction reportedly named Callaway, wife Nicole Callaway, Jennifer Thompson, Darren Thompson, Bonnie Thompson and Robyn Lore as applicants. None could reached by Postmedia on Saturday.
According to the filing obtained by CBC, each of the six applicants has been contacted by the Office of the Election Commissioner regarding the leadership race.

The UCP isn't seeking the court order.

Former UCP leadership candidate wants finance investigation halted
Quote:
Former UCP leadership candidate Jeff Callaway isn’t trying to block an investigation by Alberta’s election commissioner into the funding of his so-called “kamikaze” campaign, his lawyer said Monday.
Instead, lawyer Ivan Bernardo said, Callaway’s just trying to halt the investigation until certain questions can be answered.
Bernardo said Callaway and others involved in his campaign have a reasonable apprehension of bias by Commissioner Lorne Gibson based on his investigation to date.“We’re not asking for this investigation to be shut down,” Bernardo told Kirker.
“We’re asking for it to be paused until the court can answer some important questions.”

Anyone know how?

sometime over the weekend i saw a social media post that suggested a couple of NDP candidates (in NW Calgary I believe) had lawn signs produced with blue background.
did anyone see that post.
i refused to believe that it was true as to me that would represent a very low point in politics

I don't know. there are so many low points in politics that lawn signs don't register to me.
I don't see them having any value. just a waste of ink and paper and being an eyesore.

Having a blue sign seems to pale in comparison to the amount of sign vandalism going on. And I highly doubt that is true considering the color branding is required to keep people voting by party for the NDP - they basically brand Rachel Notley on all their signs. Would be a highly counter-intuitive move.

Basically the world's best boomer manipulation tactic is to create an artifacted jpeg without any verifiable source, post it to anti-whatever Facebook groups and watch it spread like rubella.

I've seen posts like that on my Facebook feed (so they must be true...), complete with pictures. One was from Lethbridge and I think the other may have been in Leduc. IIRC they were you basic campaign looking sign except there was no official mention of the political party. They were of the local NDP candidate, the signs were in the blue colors of the UPC, and they stated the firefighters union was backing this candidate.

There was a news article a week or so ago about Jason Kenney's team modifying a road sign. If those signs existed there would be some reporting on it, you would think.

This is so true... Because nobody in Alberta has a job now. Everyone is leaving these days and it's pretty much 100% the NDP's fault.
Thank God Kenney is winning this election. He's going to bring back $120 oil and get 6 pipelines built.

Yup....Rachel is the one looking out for Albertans.
Quote:
This is a story about how Alberta electricity consumers have been saddled with an estimated $2 billion in unnecessary costs because our Government made three mistakes in dealing with the Power Purchase Arrangements ("PPA's). The story's not just about the PPAs though. It's also about how our elected representatives in the Alberta Government used their position of power and access to taxpayer funds to attempt to achieve their political objective of avoiding accountability for having poorly managed the PPA issue.
In a June 25, 2016 Financial Post article reporting on Minister's Phillips announcement of an increase in carbon tax on large emitters, include coal-fired electricity generators, she is quoted as saying:
"Some would argue we are are moving too far and too fast. I say to them that more of the same would be the worst thing we could do for our energy economy and for the future of our province."
Had the Premier, the Minister of Environment and Parks, or the Minister of Energy done even a small amount of homework, such as seeking advice from civil servants within the Alberta Government who were well versed on the PPAs or engaging in meaningful consultations with the four PPA Buyers, they would have quickly learned two very important things:
1) this higher carbon tax on large emitters would cause Alberta's coal-fired generation plants to be unprofitable or more unprofitable; and
2) the coal-fired plants are subject to an Alberta law called the Power Purchase Arrangements Determination Regulation that says if the Government changes the law (i.e. increases the carbon tax on coal-fired generation plants) and this causes the coal-fired generation plants to be unprofitable or more unprofitable, then a government agency named the Balancing Pool, could be required to assume ownership of these unprofitable PPAs from the original PPA Buyers.

A sobering read and well laid out.
The ineptitude on this one single issue should be enough for people to admit this gang of clowns should be no where near making decisions that affect every single person in this province. An utter disaster.

Alberta had a net migration of +14,500 in 2018.

Only PEI had better YR over YR% change:

But the meme doesn't suggest that everyone is leaving, just those with pickup trucks... So obviously that's a win. Go Notley!

This province is still attractive to middle-class Canadians. More work and money than Manitoba, New Brunswick, etc. but you can actually buy a home here, unlike Toronto and Vancouver.
