And the other three on the panel? Are you saying it was a good goal?

naturalstattrick.com, which has become the capfriendly of advanced stats, say that the game was pretty even with Calgary having 21 scoring chances and VGK with 19
in high danger chances, it was 7 to 6 in calgary's favour
Calgary's shooting percentage is down from before the ASG, and while that is concerning, the hope is your gravitate back to the mean, which Calgary is currently below.

Flames have gone 7 games straight with scoring 2 goals or less.
That's a problem.
Flames have been doing well enough for most part in keeping puck out of net. But they're doing a terrible job at getting the puck into the opposition net.
Even with the goals called back of late, the Flames gotta be aiming for 3 to 4 goals a game, rather than only being able to pot 2 at most, including the ones that are called back.
The scoring lines and the PP isn't getting the job done. And Neal's absence may be starting to take notice since the lineup doesn't have enough scoring potential spread out.

That disallowed goal was hard for me to understand. I understand the contact but Tkachuk is outside the paint and what was Tkachuk supposed to do differently? Is he supposed to quickly check where MAF has the head of his stick while he fights for position in front of the net? To me that’s on MAF and it’s incidental contact resulting from a hockey play that happens 100 times in a game. Embarrassing indeed Matthew. .

If a goalie initiates the contact outside of the crease and the forward gets called for interference, why even have a painted crease? It serves no purpose. Might as well just have a zero tolerance rule against goalie contact. The league says it wants to increase scoring and then shoots itself in the foot almost nightly with these kind of overturned calls.

I think James Neal helped keep that group loose, and he isn't even around the team anymore. Pressure may be mounting a little for them.

Heads up, even though the Flames lost, the game is being replayed on SN West nationally at 11:00 AM.

Vegas was much, much better without the puck however.

that's an interesting thought...maybe?
issue is that Neal's injury doesn't seem to have an end date, so the Flames need to figure this out without him

If possible I'd like to see him at least in the room and around the team.
But connecting the dots suggests to me he may have left the city entirely.
Wills yesterday said that they've taken his stall away in the dressing room. He isn't skating or dressing, so fine. I guess. But that seems odd.
And during a Q&A on the Athletic site, Cruickshank mentioned that no one in the media has seen Neal at all lately.
Conspiracy theory stuff I suppose. But something doesn't seem right.

Did anyone else think that might have been Sam Bennett's worst game as a Flame?

That seems bizarre, did they shut Neal down for the year then? Did he pull a Jagr?

Playoff style game. At the end of the day that one really could have went either way. A few thoughts:
- Don't like how the officials make soft calls in the first period and then put their whistles away in the third. Needs to be some consistency there.
- Disagree with the disallowed goal. To me it looks like Tkachuk is outside the crease and avoids contact until Fleury gets his own stick stuck in Tkachuk's jersey. Even then he swings his lower body out to make a desperation save and thus puts himself out of position. Terrible call.
- Bennett with one of his worst games of the year. Trying to do too much.
- Really wish that Zucker for Frolik swap would have gone through. The extra speed and offense would really be a help right now.
All in all need to stay positive. Flames didn't play poorly by any means. Loved Rittich's game and good to see Tkachuk be so engaged again. Come out and stomp the Coyotes tonight and maybe Montreal does us a favor and things are looking good.

I also noticed that he was terrible last night. Brutal turnovers, not noticeably physical....
He's been better than that for a while though.

My best guess is he's probably done for the remainder of the regular season and is rehabbing somewhere. He went on the last road trip, didn't go on this one. We'll see if he's around or watching from the press box when they get home.
Usually an injured player sticks around. In this case they came back, he vanished and they took his stuff out of the locker.
I have to think he'll be back for the playoffs. Its just weird though.

I didn't even notice Sam Bennett on the ice, in a greasy game like last night he should have been all over the place causing havoc like Tkachuk. Sean Monahan has been absolutely terrible lately also, Peters needs to send a message to a couple guys. Playoffs are going to be embarrassing if this effort keeps up.
