They were good enough to win swap goalies and it would have been over before the 3rd began.

Was Iginla sweeping a chimney before tonight's game?
Anyway, I think the team was overall fine tonight, and they'll continue to be fine going forward.
I can pick out a few individuals who notably detracted from the team's success: TJ Brodie, Rasmus Andersson, and Mike Smith were the three big ones.

The Flames are quite good defensively, really almost every game.
It's crazy that there's a goalie with a sub 90.0% that is actually getting starts.
I think every other goalie in the league would be over 90% if they were playing on Calgary.
Except maybe Ward and Neuvirth.

sure, really they should have been up by multiple goals this game I honestly don't think it was a bad game against a team fighting for its life
Iffy goal called back
missed empty net
Wild were "Smith'd" two goals

He pulled Rittich because the first goal was bad too and both goals were quick. It was a dumb play by Smith but not enough to pull him. Now if he would have let in a goal like the fourth right after he should have definitely been pulled.

We outshot them by close to a 2-1 margin and controlled most of the play. If Smith was on his game we would have won this.

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
First game back after a road trip...the ceremony...this wasn't looking good even before the game started. Recharge and come back against a tough Leaf team. Give Rittich the start.

Smith had been the better goalie lately and earned the bulk of the recent starts and got them. Tonight was a massive step back. I got a feeling smith gets one more crack to take the reigns as the number one and may start on Monday. Peters and management want him to be the number one this season and given his recent play outside of tonight, he’s earned that chance. But another stinker like tonight and it’s all Big Save Dave, all the time.

The team wasn't good enough, but Smith was just brutal.
No reason for Smith to be out of the net for that long.

You are half right. The team wasn't good enough because their goaltending let them down. So Smith fully deserves the blame.

Yeah, Smith killed them. Usually after a 7 game win streak I’d forgive it, but on Iginla night...? Yeah, this stings.
